Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos. Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

Valley View: a tranquil, adult-only escape with ace valley views. Guests rave about the spotless amenities, including hot showers & a communal barn (seating, fridge, snacks). Host Helen’s super friendly & helpful. Spacious, tidy sites for a ripper, chilled stay. Some reckon power’s a bit pricey & extra showers would be handy when busy, but most are keen to come back!

- Valley views
- inside area with sofas, tea & coffee making facilities, fridge/freezer
- toilets and showers are clean
- friendly owners, good communication
- big EHU grass pitches

Disliked Minor quibbles
- one shower in the ladies which could easily get busy when the site is full
- shower room was a little cold, radiator wasn’t on

Liked the views were amazing make you feel relaxed immediately pitches were good size grass electric hook up point conveniently spaced , fresh water point in front of barn facilities ,toilet/wash up /showers and lounge area was basic but clean tidy and showers were hot, blue waste and grey waste close to barn ..we enjoyed a good few days

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
