  • Pop-up wild camping in Derbyshire’s lovely Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute walk into Castleton; Chatsworth House half an hour’s drive
  • Grass pitches with pubs and cafés nearby, plus direct access to walks
Looking for a peaceful rural stay amid spectacular Peak District countryside views? You could have hit the jackpot at Treaks Pringle Camping, a pop-up site with a true wild-camping vibe on the very outskirts of Castleton, one of the prettiest and most popular villages in the national park. This peaceful site is surrounded by fields and has gorgeous views whichever way you turn. From the camping fields, you can spot dramatic Winnats Pass, and there are myriad attractions like the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive) and Peveril Castle (five minutes) close by. Any long-distance walkers looking for an overnight stop? Treaks Pringle Camping is close to Edale (10 minutes) and the start of the Pennine Way. Basic facilities on site stretch to a washing-up area and a toilet block, so you’ll need to bring everything with you, including torches for finding your way around after dark. Don’t forget the barbecue if you fancy cooking alfresco, but there are also pubs and cafés aplenty in Castleton. The main road through Castleton is a 10-minute walk away so you don’t need to bother with the car. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but please keep them on leads at all times – and do note that the pitches here are on a slight slope.

What customers say

Great spot with awesome views, close to Castleton and Mam Tor. Jess and her family are lovely, facilities are spotless. It's basic, but the animals, fire pits and honesty box are a bonus. Site's a bit sloped, as they say.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (sloping)

Liked Lovely campsite, with very clean facilities. We loved the animals and the peaceful location with great views.

Disliked The one issue we had was with another selfish group who were very loud, swearing and playing music late on into the night.

Unpowered grass campervan site (sloping)

Liked Stunning panoramic views, easy walk into Castleton and perfect for hill/valley walking and visiting Treak Cliff & Speedwell Caverns.
Super clean toilets and washing up area and an added bonus were the goats, especially the pygmy goat kids!

Disliked Nothing. Informed in advance the pitches slope, just need to bring higher levellers next time!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (sloping)

Liked Good size field. I recommend you position your tent well because of a slope but we knew that so it wasn't unexpected . Easy booking process and communication was great.

Disliked Could do with a larger toilet block because it can get busy

Unpowered grass campervan site (sloping)

Liked Great spot, just a few minutes walk into Castleton and with amazing walks quite literally on the doorstep. Spotlessly clean toilets and friendly, accommodating hosts. The site is sloping, which is clearly advertised and shared, so no surprises on arrival, just remember your levelling blocks if you’re in a van😀

Families can pack a picnic and have a gentle amble through woods and moorland at Wyming Brook Nature Reserve (half an hour’s drive). Once you’ve wandered the moors, tors and dales of the Peak District National Park, it’s time to head below ground on a boat journey through the former tin mine in Speedwell Cavern (15 minutes’ walk). See deposits of rare Blue John stone running through the caves at Treak Cliff Cavern (15 minutes), or take a guided tour of the vast subterranean complex rich in the same stone at the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive). Get a feel for local history with explorations of 12th-century Peveril Castle (five minutes’ drive to the car park), and marvel at the priceless antiques in sumptuous Chatsworth House (half an hour).
