Views? Yes indeed – they're right there in the name of Valley View Glamping, and they’re right there on site too. This small-scale glamping site is in the Derbyshire Dales and just outside the Peak District National Park, so there’s plenty of stunning rural scenery to form the backdrop for a break here. The owners of this site have gone the extra mile to help guests make the most of these gorgeous landscapes – accommodation here is in geodesic domes that have huge windows looking out over the Derwent Valley, and a spacious outdoor deck where you can relax with a brew in the fresh air. Each dome is south facing to get the best of the sunshine throughout the day – and the dark skies mean you’ll often get some excellent stargazing by night, too. Inside, each luxurious dome has been thoughtfully kitted out with an ensuite wet room-style bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen as well as comfy beds, a dining table and a woodburning stove to keep everything cosy. Bedding and towels are provided, and there’s also a travel cot for use free of charge as well. This is a quiet and uncrowded rural spot where your neighbours will be the farm’s cows and sheep, and the birds chattering overhead. It’s got the atmosphere of a remote countryside location, but in fact you won't have to go far for amenities, as it’s only a five-minute drive to Darley Dale (for pubs, cafés and a good little collection of shops) or 10 minutes to bigger Matlock.

Local attractions

It may be tempting just to chill out on your deck for much of your break, but there’s loads to do nearby, so it’s worth getting out and about. You may like to explore on foot, for example – perhaps taking a stroll along the banks of the nearby Derwent River, hitting the High Peak Trail or planning a pub walk. For different ways to see some of the scenery, take a heritage ride on Peak Rail from Darley Dale (five minutes' drive) or get a bird’s-eye view on the Heights of Abraham cable car (15 minutes). Back at ground level, grand estates like those of Haddon Hall (10 minutes) and Chatsworth (15 minutes) make for some lovely wanders, as does the town of Bakewell (15 minutes), especially if you pick up a pudding en route. Family days out nearby might include trips to meet the animals at Matlock Farm Park (10 minutes) or try out all the rides and see the dinosaurs at Gulliver’s Kingdom (15 minutes).
