Pilsbury Lodge Farm: Beautiful Pilsbury Lodge

General

  • Well-maintained, peaceful site on working dairy farm with scenic views
  • In the Peak District National Park, a 15-minute drive from Buxton
  • Close to the Tissington and High Peak trails for countryside wanders

Plonk yourself down between pretty Peak District and Staffordshire moorlands at Pilsbury Lodge Farm, a simple yet scenic family-run site on a working dairy farm with countryside views. This is a friendly sort of spot where the owners happily greet you and get you settled in on arrival, so you can spend more time tearing through the lovely local landscape.

There is, after all, much to see in this part of the world. Just off the A515, the park is 15 minutes’ drive from Buxton and 25 minutes from the Georgian and Tudor architecture in Ashbourne, both of which are known for restaurants serving up fine food made from locally sourced ingredients.

When you’d rather cook for yourself, finagle a few of the farm-fresh eggs for sale from the site’s hens and ducks or get grilling. Cooking over coals is allowed at the park (in a firepit or on a raised barbecue so as to avoid spoiling the grass) and Hartington (10 minutes away) has a cheese shop specialising in the sought-after local stilton for jazzing up your burgers, plus tearooms and pubs are here too.

If you can still manage to waddle about after all that food, take the dog off on strolls on the Tissington and High Peak trails close by, rinsing off after long walkies in the basic showers back at the site. Other facilities include a bathroom block with toilets, a chemical disposal point, washing-up facilities, drinking water and ice pack freezing facilities to help keep your food fresh.

Please note

Reception is unmanned after 5:30 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

    Showers were hot
Great sized field, plenty of spaces between pitches

    Disliked:

Portaloos on main field weren’t very clean towards the end of the day, out of loo roll and sanitiser
When we arrived they had no note of our booking - they did mention this is an issue they have with pitch-up sometimes
When we arrived it wasn’t obvious where to go to check-in

From the manager...

Glad you enjoyed your stay thankyou for the review I'm sorry to here you disliked the toliots in the field they was regularly checked by staff and fresh loo roll did seem to go missing soon has put in and with them only being hired loos we couldn't put sanitizer in the dispenser there was two big bottles taken up but did dissappear

For check in there is loads of signs at the front pointing where reception is sorry to see you had missed them as they are not very hard to miss with signs pointing you to right direction all info should of been in your booking info where to go too and how to pay :) but we do like to text few days before as people don't seem to look at all the information 😀 and sometimes if you book on the day it doesn't come through straight away on the booking list and have to look for the booking I'm sorry that happened

Kind regards all the team at pilsbury lodge

Wondeeful views from the top of the second field where we camped, and loads of space for kids to run around and play; extra portaloos put in second field for bank holiday weekend which was convenient, but still proper loos and showers down the bottom.

Local attractions

The fishing’s fantastic hereabouts – ask the owners where to roam with your rod – as are all the subterranean spots for exploring. Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park is well worth a wander, while the Pavilion Gardens are tip-top for botanical buffs (both 15 minutes' drive).

Holidaying with pint-sized travellers? Matlock Bath (25 minutes) is a brill option for family-filled days out at the amusement centres or on the kids’ rides at Gulliver's Kingdom, and if anyone in the clan has a sweet tooth, making a beeline for Bakewell (15 minutes) to try the famed tart (or is it a pudding…? either way, it’s delicious) is a must.

From here, it’s another 15 minutes to Chatsworth House, one of the most well-known country homes in England because of its jaw-droppingly huge 1600s facade and massive collections of fancy paintings, Old Master drawings and neoclassical sculptures.

Must see

  • Haddon Hall (10.5 kilometres)
  • Chatsworth (14.0 kilometres)
  • Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills (17.9 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Winster Market House (11.9 kilometres)
  • The Old Manor (21.7 kilometres)
