Powered grass tent site

Liked: Stayed 2 nights mid Sept 2024, a last minute booking for 2 adults (f) and a tent. Check-in process was speedy and seamless by a very nice person who was informative and helpful. Very wet weather which we expected, but our camp spot with EHU was in great order. Grass areas are well maintained. A 4hr thunderstorm brought much excitement being almost under a row of huge trees on Lower Meadow. It was fantastic! Toilet & shower facilities are very smart. Elsan point, refuse areas/fencing are well laid out and very tidy. Well stocked shop and pub/restaurant in walking distance although we didn't try it. We stayed onsite for the duration of our stay. So quiet and peaceful. Grounds are very pleasant with lots of well established trees and shrubs. Wardens were vigilant during the storm, constantly motoring around and checking/helpingwhere necessary. All in all, this is a great site. There was a discount available which was an added bonus. I'd be interested in returning during warmer months to explore the local area. :) Childrens play area looked in great condition too. Thanks 😀

Powered grass tent site

Liked: The children’s area was well looked after and my 5 year old loved it. The receptionist was very welcoming on check in. The location is great and facilities are second to none. I would return here again

Disliked: The electric grass tent pitch seemed to be on slight slope. Wi-Fi was poor. I wasn’t able to connect with my booking reference and 7.99 for 24 hours seems expensive. I’ve stayed at others where WiFi is free

Liked: Site was not busy. Good shower block. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Noisy road though for me it was not a problem as I was so tired due to all the walking in the beautiful outdoors.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: My Daughter loved the playground and I liked the shower block and the neighbours. I was grateful to the friendly staff who helped me pitch up as I tried to peg out and bent all my pegs but they helped me move and helped me peg out in a different place.

Disliked: The noise from the main road, I'm a heavy sleeper but it was noisy even for me, I found even at 2am there were a few trucks still driving down the road. Oh and the ground itself, if your pegging out a tent, you're going to need heavy duty pegs as I bent all of mine.

Liked: Well kept park which was quite well lit. Most of the toilet and shower facilities were great. Dishwashing facilities were very good. Nice children's play area. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Shower didn't last long per button press. 1 of the playground equipment didn't work properly.

Local attractions

This is Austen country, so you can barely turn around without tripping over some stately pile of bricks... If you fancy gliding around as if you own the place, adopt an air of wealth and superiority and head to Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall (with its Museum of Childhood), Hardwick Hall, Chatsworth House and The Old Manor, all within roughly half an hour’s drive of Newhaven, then chauffeur yourself over to Melbourne Hall, just under an hour away. Hols with kids are pretty easy in these parts too, as there’s absolutely oodles to distract them with within an hour of the site: make your way to Matlock for the Heights of Abraham alpine cable car and Gulliver’s Kingdom theme park (and the Crich Tramway Museum, Peak District Mining Museum and Masson Mills for some grownup sanity). Also get along to Buxton for treetop adventuring at Go Ape; underground exploration at Poole’s Cavern, and Alton Towers for some adrenaline-fuelled rides. If traipsing around on land isn’t really floating your boat, spend a day (or two) at Carsington Water, less than half an hour away, for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating and fishing, or head to WaterWorld (just outside Stoke-on-Trent) for some indoor waterpark splashing around.
