  • Small, friendly Peak District site close to several walking trails
  • A 10-minute drive to Buxton and Bakewell and 20 minutes to Chatsworth
  • Dog-friendly pitches; several pubs within a five-minute drive
For peaceful times in the Peak District National Park take a look at Longfield Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by Derbyshire countryside. A 10-minute drive from the spa town of Buxton and the medieval town of Bakewell, the pitches here are well situated for all sorts of alfresco activities. In the surrounding Peak District, guests can pull on their walking boots and get stuck into several good hikes along the likes of the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail, each within a 25-minute drive. Dogs should find plenty to sniff out on countryside walks too, and cyclists can make use of the area's many dirt paths. For other outdoor activities to get the heart racing, there's kayaking, windsurfing and fly fishing 30 minutes away at Carsington Water, including taster sessions for first-timers. After all this, put your feet up at one of the local country pubs. Handily, there are several within a five-minute drive, including one with a large playground to let the kids blow off some steam while you nurse a well-deserved pint. This is a simple site with basic facilities only, but you’ll have access to water points, three toilets and a shower. If you don’t fancy a bite to eat from one of the local pubs, you're welcome to light up your own barbecue instead. Both Buxton and Bakewell have a good selection of supermarkets, or you can head to one of several local farm shops for meat and extras to put on the grill.

Great Aussie holiday spot! Well-kept, peaceful, rural location, perfect for Peak District trips. Spacious sites, awesome views, farm animals galore. Friendly staff. Facilities are a bit basic and could use an update, but it’s good value. Most happy campers would return!

Liked The location was nice. Buxton was not a long drive away so any time we needed something we could just drive up and get it. The area was fairly quiet and it was nice to see so many farm animals around. Overall a peaceful stay despite the heavy rain

Liked Nice campsite very basics, which we didn't mind, peaceful but if you wanting something to do or entertainment for the kids then I wouldn't recommend it as it won't be for you or be prepared to travel to places. The campsite is on the airport line so we see loads of planes which my daughter loved and watching the flight app to see where they were all coming in from but obviously they do come by over night which in a tent can keep you awake so if you like me and hear all the noise then take some ear plugs. We loved seeing the animals and the cats they are all so friendly and very chatty 🙂. You are just left to your own thing, wasn't sure who owned the site which was fine but got woken up one morning to people pitching up their tents at 7am(I was under the understanding you couldn't pitch up till after 12.30pm) very close to ours making loads of noise. We had a lovely time though and in a beautiful place with lovely views, pitches are really good size with electric hook up close and water taps close. Would go back again.

Disliked Lack of hot water, tried to have a shower it was freezing, had to wash up in Luke warm water.

Liked Very good Location, nice and quiet. Very tidy site, friendly owner, toilets clean

Disliked Kids weren't allowed play ball games

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. It is much appreciated.
If you do stay again please let us know and I will try and sort something for your children to play ball games as I know this is part of going away camping as a family. I for one like to see them playing sports and off the modern devices that kids all seem to be on nowadays.
Iam sorry that this wasn’t the case on your stay.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The site was exactly what was offered in the description and was perfect for rest and relaxation. The facility's were as described basic but more than adequate. David his wife and Patch the dog were great friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back many times as it was perfect for me and Karen Wilf & Skye.

Disliked All the people that moan about the site i don't know what they expect they would be better off at butlins

Liked Campsite was brilliant. Plenty of contact before the trip with advice on where to pitch on arrival. Directions on Pitch Up were accurate and the campsite was easy to find. We had an electric pitch on grass and there was loads of room for our tent and car. Grass was lovely and short and clearly well maintained. Views were stunning across the Peak District. Facilities are basic but clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend using the campsite and would camp here again.

Route directions

The entrance to the site is on Flagg Lane (not The Jarnett). There is a signpost opposite the turning for Long Field Farm and Lane End Farm Trust. Look out for the fixed sheep pens at the top of the track, then follow the lane down to the site entrance on the right and look for your numbered pitch. If you type Lane End Farm Trust into your sat nav that should take you to the campsite.

Local attractions

If your walking boots are a camping essential, take them over to the Tissington Trail for a fine 13-mile route through the Derbyshire countryside. The route commences a 25-minute drive away in Ashbourne. For a shorter trail, the Monsal Trail is 15 minutes away – it's easier on the feet with a less demanding 8.5-mile route. For adrenaline seekers, Carsington Water is half an hour’s drive away. Here, you can hire kayaking kit or try out windsurfing if you're feeling extra ambitious. If watersports aren't your strong suit, their taster sessions will help to ease you in to the relevant techniques. For other activities that will raise your heart rate, there’s an outdoor pool in Hathersage 25 minutes away and several indoor pools within a 25-minute drive. Further afield, take a whirl on the rollercoasters at Alton Towers, a 40-minute drive away and with plenty to fill a full day. At Matlock Farm Park (30 minutes), a collection of cute animals should keep kids entertained; they can give horse riding a go too or gently feed the lambs if they're seeking some quieter time.
