Lane End Farm: Site entrance with good access

General

  • Small-scale Peak District farm site for adults only
  • Just off the A623, a mile from Litton; Tideswell five minutes' drive
  • Back to basics campsite with spectacular hill views

Monsal Trail cycling, Peak District pubs and green farm vistas… what a combination. Get stuck into the lot of them with a stay at Lane End Farm, a small-scale Buxton site a couple of miles from Tideswell village.

This adults-only working farm is conveniently located just off the A623, a few hundred yards from historic Peter's Stone and the wildlife of Cressbrook Dale National Nature Reserve. Two pubs are within a mile: the Three Stags Heads Inn just off the main road and the Red Lion Inn, a short walk away in the village of Litton. In addition, there's Tideswell's wide range of cafés, fish and chip joints, takeaways and shops, all of which are a five-minute drive away. To top it off, there's a small supermarket here (handy to have if you're barbecuing).

These surroundings are easy to get to grips with, as Lane End Farm has some truly excellent views over local Peak District terrain. As a rule, this is a hilly part of the world, making the scenery all the more interesting. That said, there are no abrupt slopes on site: just acres of flat green farm pastures for hassle-free pitching. At times you'll see spring lambs frolicking through the fields too.

The facilities here are basic, but both toilets and showers are maintained to a high standard. Sometimes local produce is available to buy too – chat to site staff for details.

Very accommodating - we asked to be moved to the lower pitches as we were originally allocated pitches next to the sheep field and we have a reactive dog. Spoke to Paul, was happy to move us and our friends to pitches next to each other and it was no hassle doing so. Thanks!
Clean facilities, that while we were cleaned every day
Great pitches that are good to pitch up on and lovely owners.

We highly recommend this lovely little site. Perfect for a few days camping with amazing views. The shower and washing facilities were adequate and spotlessly clean. Plenty of hot water and powerful shower.
Fresh eggs from the farm for breakfast. Close to great pubs and lovely walks.
Looking forwards to a return visit again next year.
The owners went above and beyond to ensure everything was ok.

Local attractions

This site is about three miles from Miller's Dale (10 minutes' drive), a small village on the river Wye where you can pick up the Monsal Trail towards Bakewell or Buxton. There's a well-maintained National Park-run parking spot here, plus an abseiling centre if you still have energy for adventure after covering all that ground. And if you haven't? A cosy waterside pub a few yards away will see to that.

The mighty halls and gorgeous grounds of Chatsworth House (15 minutes) are also conveniently close to base, making this campsite a good choice if you haven't finished touring the estate and want to head back for round two. There's also Lyme Park (30 minutes), an excellent National Trust-managed property that starred as Pemberley in the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice.

Thrill-seeking guests won't want to pass up the opportunity of visiting the top-rated rides at Alton Towers (50 minutes), while those who have a head for heights but prefer to take things at a slower pace will find suitably high-altitude entertainment at Go Ape Buxton (20 minutes).

Must see

  • Chatsworth (10.4 kilometres)
  • Haddon Hall (10.5 kilometres)
  • Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills (21.8 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Winster Market House (16.5 kilometres)
  • Lyme Park (22.7 kilometres)
