  • Small and peaceful adults-only site five minutes' drive from Ashbourne
  • Just outside the Peak District; walk along the river to Dovedale
  • Private yoga, mindfulness and cold water therapy sessions available
Aching for some space to breathe, to move, to relax, to reconnect? You’ve found your way to the right place at Naterra Escapes, a small and welcoming eco-friendly site in the Derbyshire countryside about five minutes’ drive from Ashbourne. Part of a family homestead and open to adults only (ages 17+), this place is small and peaceful by design, with added wellness options to help guests escape the daily grind and soothe their frazzled brains. Guided cold therapy experiences, private mindfulness classes and private yoga sessions can all be booked on site, and there’s also plenty of space to practise yoga, read books and generally chill out around the site or in the cosy communal Mongolian yurt. How you choose to experience this place is up to you – take things slowly on site or use the place as a base for some excellent walks or bike rides among gorgeous scenery. The wilds of the Peak District National Park are just a few minutes’ drive away, and the traffic-free Tissington Trail is also very close by. Handily, there’s also a great village pub 10 minutes’ walk away… This site is part of the Greener Camping Club, and it has suitably eco-friendly facilities including clean composting toilets, a warm outdoor (ish) shower and recycling facilities. You’ll also certainly want to check out the ‘sundowner stones’ – a splendid spot for your evening drinks – and the ‘clamps courtyard’, where you can eat, have a cup of tea, read a book or just dream… all with fabulous views towards Thorpe Cloud.

Local attractions

Being just south of the Peak District National Park, you’ll be in a fabulous spot for a few walks or bike rides. You may like to start with a riverside walk to Ilam and/or the Dovedale stepping stones – it takes a little over an hour to reach either of these, or about 10 minutes in the car. For cyclists, the Tissington Trail passes close by, giving you access to 13 miles of traffic-free cycling along a former railway line (with bike hire available locally if you need it). Heading a little further into the national park, a short drive gets you to places like Minninglow (20 minutes’ drive), Thor’s Cave (25 minutes) or Nine Ladies Stone Circle (35 minutes). The Chatsworth Estate (40 minutes) is always a popular pick for a day out, or you could stop by in Bakewell (35 minutes) to try out its puddings. Outside the park, turn to Carsington Water (15 minutes) for watersports and open-water swimming, ride the cable car at Heights of Abraham (half an hour) or get the adrenaline pumping on the rides at Alton Towers (20 minutes).
