  • Quiet rural site five minutes' drive from Ashbourne
  • A 10-minute drive from the Peak District; 20 minutes from Alton Towers
  • Two pubs within walking distance
Essential ingredients for a rural Derbyshire break? Peaceful spot surrounded by open fields and plenty of space for games/campfires/chilling out… If that combination sounds just about right, book yourselves into Brook Farm, a well-kept quiet site with no facilities out in the countryside five minutes’ drive from Ashbourne. The views here are mainly made up of various shades of green, in the form of fields and trees, with a few location bonus points thrown in for being on the banks of the Dove river. There’s plenty of space to play with around this site, but the folk here understand the value of peace and quiet, so they keep a lid on guest numbers rather than cram people in – and thumbs up to that move, as it leaves a great swathe of space for kids/dogs/demob-happy office workers to run around and for barbecues or campfires to be constructed safely away from the action. Beers, buns and burgers for the barbecue can be picked up from the butcher, baker and supermarket in Ashbourne. Want to stretch your legs further? There are plenty of walks to be had in the surrounds, and there are two pubs within walking distance of the site, the closest being just 25 minutes' walk away. The Peak District National Park’s about a 10-minute drive away for more outdoorsy options, and Alton Towers is 20 minutes away if you want to swap rural rambles for rollercoaster thrills. The site is also a short walk away from bus stops with an hourly bus service to locations including Derby, Ashbourne and Uttoxeter.

What customers say

A "gem" of a peaceful campsite, this spot's lauded for its serene vibes, friendly hosts, and tidy, level pitches. While facilities are basic (think porta-loo), guests were clued up and found them clean. Great for walks and near Ashbourne, with a bus route handy. Some reckon upgrades are due, others love the stripped-back simplicity.

Liked Poor.no staff, no toilet, no shower and £29 quid

From the manager: Thank you for the review and your opinions do sometimes matter
However, we do not advertise toilets or showers so this is irrelevant and we advise all customers to read the information provided before they book to ensure they go to the right place to meet their expectations.
The booking was same day and this was acknowledged by a text clearly stating that if they needed anything then just to ask and to pitch where they wanted to go. We would like to please everyone but clearly cannot provide the things mentioned if not got them.
It is £29 to include 2 adults, a car and a caravan and a dog and child for 24 hours so not sure where else in the leisure industry you could go for the same amount of money & time. This is subject to vat, commission, tax, less water, electricity, emptying waste water, mowing grass and time.

Powered grass caravan site (members only)

Liked A little gem of a site. Beautiful surroundings, a bus stop at the end of the lane with a service to either Ashbourne or Uttoxeter. Plenty of walks nearby, we loved our weekend here, and will be visiting again soon.

Disliked Not really a dislike.but, wheel ramps are advisable if you're in a motorhome or camper as there is a slight slope.
Also, read the site description. There are no showers and just a single portaloo.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The location

Disliked It says there’s no showers but does not even have drinking water tap or any where to wash your pots. Just a portaloo

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You could have used one of the five drinking water taps on site and available?? There are washing up bowls and fairy liquid provided free . The portaloo available to use as stated .

Local attractions

The Peak District National Park is quite simply a fab place to spend a few days roaming around on foot, on bikes, on horseback… If you can’t pick a place to start your explores, perhaps aim for the stepping stones across the valley at Dovedale (15 minutes’ drive), or set out on the Tissington Trail, which heads out of Ashbourne to wend its way along 13 miles of abandoned railway line. Much excellent wandering can also be done in the grounds of the area’s smart stately homes. Chatsworth (40 minutes) is a fab place to fill a whole day out: as well as the art-filled house and gorgeous gardens, there’s also a farmyard, a kids’ trail and a huge playground area. The National Trust’s Sudbury Hall (15 minutes) and Kedleston Hall (20 minutes) are mighty fine options too. If you love a good scream as you plummet earthwards on a rollercoaster, a day out at Alton Towers (20 minutes) is a must on the schedule. For somewhat gentler family days out, try an animal encounter at Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) or a steam-driven ride on the Churnet Valley Railway (20 minutes).
