  • Dog-friendly wild meadow site on an organic Buckinghamshire farm
  • A 10-minute drive from Waddesdon Manor; 15 minutes to Aylesbury
  • Values of health and sustainability; rural footpaths and pub nearby
Green-fingered and keen on a getaway that’s got the same values? Pitchcott Hill Farm is such a place, founded on sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming. The large, handsome meadow is part of a friendly, authentic organic farm where the pitches are spaced out for privacy and wildness – that means acres of space (literally, as the field is 14 acres in total). Nature’s at the fore here, that’s for sure, and it all begins in the site’s camping shower, set up inside a hedgerow alongside the meadow. It’s inside a tree, so you’ve got a hot shower just like at home, but with a natural cubicle and wildlife as your viewing window. A firepit is provided here ready for evening time – and for other facilities, there are toilets and charging points. Off site, there are plans of action for both foodies and walking fans alike – first, a whole load of footpaths in the surrounding Buckinghamshire countryside and, just over the fields, a pub in Oving (around 20 minutes’ walk) with a jewel of a menu and beer garden. The local village, Whitchurch (35 minutes’ walk) has shops for everyday essentials and the local farm shop (10 minutes’ drive) is a good place to pick up local and seasonal produce. The aim of the farm is to regenerate the health of the soils, so sustainability, regeneration, woodland creation and environmental protection are all at its core – and the team are grounded in creativity, authenticity and inclusivity for a healthy community feel.

What customers say

Quiet, roomy campsite with cracking views & natural vibes. Fire pits and wheelbarrows a bonus. New cafe & "hedgerow shower" a hit. A bit pricey for some, with a few rough edges noted, but most loved it & want to come back.

Bell tent

Liked Fantastic location and incredible views all around the site. The view from the swing seat was breathtaking! Very new and clean facilities and friendly owners. A very good spot for peace and tranquility. Camping field a very good size, we stayed in a bell tent which was basic but had comfy mattresses and perfect for a night or two.

Disliked No hooks for towels or clothes in showers, no mirrors and showers overspill onto the floor with nowhere to drain off. All
Very minor points for what are fantastic facilities

Meadow unpowered grass campervan site

Liked We loved the peace and tranquility of the site, plenty of space and choice of where to pitch. It was a wonderful field (had just a hay cut), and thankfully during this hot weather, we caught a wonderful breeze where we pitched. The views are stunning.

There is a handy new café on site which makes the most of the views too.

Plenty of parking and wheelbarrows are handy to help those in tents with moving kit from the car to the site.

We loved the fire pits that you can hire with a box of kindling and logs to help you on your way, although some logs needed to be cut down a little more and it wasn’t clear on arrival where the fire pits were, even though we had prepaid for this and the firewood in advance. A beautiful touch though, and lovely to look around the site at night to see other campers enjoying their fire pits too.

Didn’t test the hedgerow shower or toilet as had our own facilities in the van.

Disliked The gate that provides access to the field from the car park needs repairing and lifting or replacing. It’s a bit splintery and quite heavy to manoeuvre and open the whole way.

Apart from that, very hard pressed to find anything about the site to dislike.

This is not within the control of the site, but the pub which is located around 20 minute walk away from the site was very busy, which impacted customer service and our experience, and it was quite a precarious walk back to the site at dusk given there are hardly any pavements and vehicles travel at quite a pace along the road. One to watch for families with young children. Torches recommended for the walk back.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Loved the space and views, nice and local for us to access for an overnight getaway, close to a good pub, walks from the farm.
Basic compostable toilet (and hedgerow shower available for the brave!)
Able to hire a fire pit and purchase wood from site.
Only a few pitches (9?) so they were very well spaced out and infact you couldn't see half the campers due to the size of the field!

Disliked There was an event with music the night we stayed but we were not told about this when booking or when we met the owner in the afternoon and would have pitched further away from the music had we known. Was offered a refund as it went on til well after 10pm, but that's not what we are about. (We enjoyed the overall camping experience)
Thought £30 a night was a bit steep, but if you're only staying a night or two it won't break the bank

Liked Lovely clean and peaceful site with great views. Marshmallows round a fire pit, under the stars.

Elyse was super helpful, texting before, around if we needed anything, but it was all as described.

Would stay again.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked The site was super quiet, easy to find, and had lots of relatively flat areas to pitch our tent. The composting toilet was okay, and the person I spoke to when we arrived (Elyse) was very friendly. A simple campsite if you want to be in that specific area, not sure it's exciting enough to stay otherwise.

Disliked The £70 I paid for two nights with two kids felt a little steep given that there is one sink, one toilet, a grubby looking barn with picnic benches, and soooo many spiky weeds all over the field so we couldn't wear sandals/flip flops, the kids could roll around/sit on the floor as they quite often enjoy doing.

From the manager: Hi Ellie, thanks for your feedback. There are a maximum of 10 pitches within the field in order to retain the wild nature of the site. It's a 15 acre field so campers have a lot of space and privacy. The facilities provided included 2 basins and the hot shower within the hedgerow. The philosophy of the farm is to balance the needs of people and nature. I'm glad you appreciated the quietness and simplicity. Best wishes, Tony

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked We enjoy our stay and the feeling of spaciousness, being a huge field full of wild flowers with alot of distance between campers. Also liked the no car at tent rule, which adds to feeling of having gotten away from it all. (There are wheelbarrows to assist.)
There's also a barn which we used to dry tent before packing it away.

Had a great stay and we'll be back.

Disliked There is only one compost toilet and area to get water, which was fine and adequate for number of campers, but glad we brought a large water container.

Local attractions

With the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east, there are many trails within reach and Phoenix Trail (half an hour’s drive) is one of the highlights. Between Princes Risborough and Thame, this seven and half-mile is free of traffic, meaning you’ll get to cycle, walk or horse ride in peace – good conditions to spy on red kites and birds of prey about the area. National Trust properties know a thing or two about a peaceful time too. Perhaps you’ll want to fly a kite or practise your aim with archery on the Dunstable Downs (35 minutes) or poke your head into the aviary at Waddesdon Manor (10 minutes) to see rare birds? At Boarstall Duck Decoy (half an hour), you’ll get to see just one of four duck decoys remaining in England too. Now, how about a ride of some type? There are rollercoasters in Gulliver's Land Theme Park Resort (35 minutes) or steam train rides from the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (10 minutes). Meanwhile, the vehicle of choice at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London (45 minutes) is a broomstick… and in Oxford (50 minutes), a punt.
