Campaigning: How Pitchup champions the outdoor accommodation sector
Outdoor tourism, and the outdoor accommodation sector, is sometimes wrongly considered a ‘niche’ market. With 5 million domestic visitor nights per year and over £500m of bookings handled since our founding in 2009, at Pitchup, we know outdoor tourism is anything but niche.
The outdoor accommodation sector is made up of thousands of campsites, caravan parks, glamping sites, farms, pubs and other SMEs and microbusinesses, who work extremely hard to deliver quality customer experiences, as well as generate vital income for rural communities who rely so critically on tourism revenue.
With the growing demand for this type of nature-connected, back-to-basics holiday - which hosts more bednights than the hotels* - Pitchup uses our scale to ensure the voice of our industry is heard from the outset, and the unique nature of the sector is not treated as an afterthought in policymaking and new or updated regulations.
This may see us campaigning with policymakers, key stakeholders, and industry groups, on issues such as extended Permitted Development Rights, or challenging the impact of the upcoming Overnight Visitor Levy in England. We champion rural businesses that are the heart of UK tourism, to ensure outdoor accommodation providers have a sustainable future.
