Struggling to choose between California’s beaches, wine country and forest hikes? Skip the decision making and have all three at Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground, in the town of Buellton.
Handily located just off Highway 101, the resort is around a 15-minute drive from the coast and half an hour from the Los Padres National Forest. Keen quaffers will also be pleased to hear that you’re in Santa Barbara wine country here, with vineyards, wineries and tasting rooms all close by. (Much of the 2004 film Sideways was shot on location round here too.)
There are plenty of facilities around the resort – take a dip in the outdoor pool, immerse yourself in the hot tub’s bubbles or put your feet up on a daybed in one of the poolside cabañas. If you’re feeling a little more active, have a workout in the fitness room or play a traditional game of horseshoes or bocce while the kids clamber over the adjacent playground. On hot days they’ll most likely make a beeline for the water play area, or maybe retreat indoors to play a game of pool or table football in the games room.
The on-site café serves up good old American comfort food, ice creams and drinks; you can also get a takeaway to take to the pool or back to your berth, and picnic tables, barbecue grills and fire rings are all around the grounds. Snacks and drinks are available to buy from the mini market, or you can pick up a local bottle from the wine shop for a spot of open-air sipping.
