Camping de Chênefleur

Away from the main Ardennes trails, gentler ambles can be had around Château du Faing (10 minutes’ drive), a neo-gothic pad whose classic turrets date from the late 19th century, or the Cistercian monastery Orval Abbey (20 minutes), whose 1132 date of establishment makes it a rather older setup. For more on the local history front, head to Gaumais local archaeology and ethnography museum (20 minutes) or skip over the border into France for a stroll around the citadel of Montmédy (half an hour). The scenic village of Torgny (half an hour) is worth a trip too to see its old hermit houses and the vineyards that surround it. Fancy ticking off a third country on your trip? Point your travels eastwards for 40 minutes or so to get to Luxembourg City for a wander along the riverbanks, a trip underground through the tunnels of Casemates du Bock and arty times at the city’s numerous museums.
