The views around Civara Chalet are stunning – looking out over the wooded hills of western Crete to some sweet little whitewashed villages on the mountainsides beyond. It’s the kind of place where you may well want to spend quite some time just sitting outside, staring at the scenery with a glass of wine in hand… And that’s something that can certainly be on the cards, as the single safari tent at this location has been thoughtfully designed to include a scenic deck area with deckchairs, an outdoor table and a woodburning stove so you can make the most of it from breakfast through to evening time. That deck is also home to a real highlight – your own hot tub where you can bubble away while looking out at those views. All this makes it easy and comfortable to spend many hours outside… but the interior has been just as well designed, so time inside is equally enticing. The tent has its own ensuite bathroom and well-equipped kitchen as well as a separate sleeping area that you can either zip up for sleep-inducing darkness or leave open to enjoy the views. Also included are lots of little extra touches including top-quality bed linen, lamps, reading material, an air conditioner and decorative furnishings. As tempting as it may be simply to plant yourselves on the deck for the duration, it’s very much worth getting out to explore your surroundings. There are lots of walks around here, including some paths that will take you to the beach in half an hour or so (or drive it in five minutes). Head inland to the village of Apokoronos or to the coast at Kalyves – either way, there’s plenty to explore.
