Who's up for a Brittany beach close to a family-friendly seaside site? This and rather a lot more are around Clohars-Carnoët's Camping Le Kerou, near the famed seaside resort of Pouldu. Pouldu is a place so comely it was painted (rather a lot) by arty sorts including Paul Gauguin (tell the kids that: they'll be fascinated). These days, one would more likely take a smartphone pic of these spectacular surroundings, but if you do fancy setting up an easel, there are plenty of places to pick from along the signposted path of the cliffs where the great man wielded his paintbrush. Or just laze on the beach instead 200 metres from the site instead, or learn how to surf in these blue Brittany waters, or go jetskiing, or fishing, or island tripping… all within easy reach. An indoor heated pool is back at base, along with a big outdoor pool, three waterslides and an accompanying paddling pool. The site also has a wellbeing centre with sauna, Jacuzzi and terrace to hire for private use for an extra charge. High season sees many activities for kids and adults, including theme nights and evening entertainment. Kids can also bound around the bouncy castle, slides, games and little hut of the roomy playground set near the pool, challenge the grownups to a game or two of pétanque, or spend happy hours in the games room with billiards, pinball machine and video games. This friendly place also has a snack bar, restaurant, grocery shop and bakery, open in July and August. A multisports court was added in 2018.

Llocs d'interès

Kérou's beach just in front of the site is home to Kerou Beach Surf Club and Surf School Kloar Britain. For a more adrenalised time, take a jetski trip from the Guidel beaches to the islands of Groix or the Glénans. Sailing activities, fishing and an introduction to sculling at the Pouldu beach sailing club are also available nearby. Scenic Pouldu, a short stroll or quick drive away, has a museum about Gauguin and a signposted path on the cliffs detailing some of his favoured spots (the House of Pouldu museum in town tells his arty tale). The Camping Le Kerou team reckons the port of Doëlan is worth a trip along with Pouldu, for Breton landscapes of sea and forest, coastal paths and coves. About half an hour's drive will take you to the famed Breton tourist destinations of Lorient, Pont Aven, Concarneau and Quimper, for a range of days out including bike rides, hiking and horseback riding in the spectacular forest of Carnoët.
