Camp Hartland is in an enviable location on a working farm between medieval Corfe Castle, sandy beaches and the Purbeck Hills in Dorset. With country walks and bike rides nearby, this is a smashing base for friends and families (and their dogs, of course) chasing outdoor adventures with a quasi wild-camping vibe. Here you can pitch your tent for a night or more, sleeping under the stars in peaceful surroundings. There are three camping fields for you to choose from, and the chalet-style wash shack has two family washrooms with showers and loos, plus washing-up facilities – and thoughtfully there are four eco-loos scattered around the farm so there’s never too far to walk if nature calls. Camp life centres on the sociable hubbub around the Horsebox Café, run by one of the site managers, Jill, and open in the morning and afternoon serving up tea, coffee, soft drinks, hot breakfast baps, picnic pies and tasty pasties (all made on site), as well as cakes, biscuits and ice creams. Nature lovers should stroll down to RSPB Stoborough Heath (20 minutes’ walk) or Hartland Moor National Nature Reserve (five minutes) for the chance to spot warblers and (rare) hen harriers. Also within walking distance is a farm with seasonal PYO fruit and a shop selling regional produce, and the nearest pub (10 minutes’ walk) has good grub, local beers or ciders and a pub garden with a kids’ play area. You can pick up essentials in the gorgeous market town of Wareham, sitting on the Piddle and Frome rivers, and home to Purbeck Film Festival in the summer, when films are projected onto the old city walls.

Em va agradar Setting on Hartman’s MoorNature Reserve but also close to Wareham and Swanage. Quiet campsite, large pitches (none are marked out) adjacent cafe and laid back vibe. Hot and powerful showers. Good price

No em va agradar During bank holiday weekend there were constant queue for the toilets; would suggest creating a few extra toilets on their own .

Em va agradar Great location for exploring Purbeck with nice flat fields for camping. Stunning views from the upper field of sunrise/sunset. The toilet/shower block is well provisioned with good hot water. Visited the cafe and had lovely homemade cakes and coffee. Would stay again.

Em va agradar Peaceful setting with lots of pitch options. Very laid back feel.
Friendly and helpful staff in the cafe with good food options for breakfast and snacks.
Good location for Wareham, Corfe and Studland

Em va agradar Perfect campsite with the option of various fields to pitch up on. Surrounded by beautiful rolling purbeck hills. Lovely hot water for showers and a variety of toilet options. Cafe and small play area on site. A lovely pub just a 10 minute walk from campsite. 8 min drive to Studland and Swanage, great location

Em va agradar 2nd time camping here and loved it just as much as the first. We pitched in the first field on the left as had children with us, (7months, 4yrs and 5yrs in ages) A peaceful night had by us all.
Facilities fab, cafe, eco loos, shower rooms (we tried them all out) lovely hot water in all.
Thank you for the thoughtful charging points for electrical items, very helpful.
Look forward to returning next year.

Em va agradar Loved it that much that we came back the next weekend also (with our 7month daughter in tow). Very much enjoyed the relaxation and freedom to pitch where you like. Eco loos surprisingly not what I expected, great facilities . Fab location, close to Corfe, swanage and studland. We enjoyed a meal at the pub opposite the campsite, a nice little walk.

Em va agradar Location is great to explore Dorset, set in heathland and very close to corfe castle. Great that the check in and check out times were flexible. Looks like there is a lovely cafe on the grounds.

No em va agradar Not enough toilets as had to queue in the rain for the two toilets with showers every time. Other option is the eco long drop toilets with no sinks, not for everyone! I would come back if there was a bigger toilet block, however currently it's not suitable if you have any urologly conditions or are of a certain age!

We are a small pop up site with 6 toilets and 4 showers. Admittedly, 4 of them are long drops but we are a back to nature basic site - not a commercial site - so very difficult to get planning for more than we have. Simple camping which most people love as our reviews confirm. It does suit most people who want a basic rural setting, but not everyone who need a bit more. The cafe offering food and coffee is a positive addition. We hope to see you again sometime.

With a location so close to the Jurassic coast (20 minutes’ drive), you might want to start ticking off some of the top spots. Its most easterly point is the Old Harry Rocks (20 minutes), chalk stacks out to sea and a fine place to snap a good pic. Your snorkelling gear is an essential for Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes) – unless you’re heading there to surf or windsurf instead. One way to get to Swanage (20 minutes) is on the heritage railway from Corfe Castle Station (10 minutes) – once there, coasteering, paddleboarding and all manners of watersports are within your grasp. Of course, stop off at the National Trust’s Corfe Castle (five minutes) before you let the train whisk you off – the hilltop ruins are simply splendid for an explore. Wildlife fans will find plenty to spy on around the Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve (25 minutes). But first, some tasty nosh in Wareham (10 minutes), a local market town?
