Willow Lodge

Em va agradar Good communication from Sally before we arrived for our stay, providing clear instructions about the road closure and diversion. The face-to-face welcome on arrival made the experience more personal.

The entire accommodation was clean, and the separate bathroom was warm even with temperatures of minus 2 degrees outside. The kitchen utensils, crockery, plates, cups, and cutlery were all very clean, which is extremely important to us. The bed, bed sheets, towels, and duvet were also very clean.

Thoughtful freebies such as toilet paper, hand wash, dishwasher liquid, firewood for the fireplace, family games, and coal for the BBQ were greatly appreciated.

The highlight for us was having a BBQ in the lounge, staying cosy, and playing games together. We also took the kids to the nearby playground in Chulmleigh and went for a walk in Eggesford Forest.

No em va agradar This is not a dislike, but a positive suggestion: remember to buy food essentials in the nearby town, and download movies and kids’ games in advance.

Em va agradar Everything, there isn't anything not to like. Location, indoor firepit soooo cosey, and extremely clean. A nice touch with a doggie basket.
Going back again in a few weeks.

Em va agradar Tranquil surroundings. Cosy bedroom with comfy bed. Outdoor kitchen equipped with everything you need. Great shower with lots of hot water. Outdoor firepit which we made full use of with endless supply of wood. The most beautiful Willow tree. Gorgeous lodge. The cleanliness of absolutely everything. Sturdy outdoor table with comfy chairs.

Em va agradar It’s an absolute pleasure to write this review. Sally and Tom are the perfect hosts, they go out of their way to make your stay as close to perfect as possible. You can always count on their kindness, respect and the privacy they provide. The place is filled with peace, quiet and a true connection with nature.

The cabin is equipped with everything you need: blankets, pillows, bedding and towels. And if there’s ever anything missing, getting in touch with Sally and Tom is effortless and if they can help, they certainly will.

The bathroom - there’s hot water in the shower, with plenty of space and light :-)
The kitchen - it has everything you might need: plates, mugs, cutlery, pots and pans, a small fridge, a little cooker, a toaster and a kettle. There’s even baking paper!

We were absolutely charmed by the basket of dog goodies, including a jar of dog biscuits, which was such a thoughtful touch! On top of that, the folder full of helpful tips and recommendations was incredibly useful and made our stay even easier.

You can enjoy a barbecue, a small campfire or simply sit in the sunshine or shade. The tree right by the cabin creates a magical atmosphere, adding so much charm and even offers cover from a light summer shower ;-)

We wholeheartedly recommend it!

No em va agradar We don’t consider these to be negatives, but (subjectively) points worth mentioning:

The cabin really works best as a one-bedroom for two people. For us, it was fine - our kids didn’t mind, with two of us sharing the bed and the other two sleeping on the bench seats converted into makeshift beds. However, this might not be the most comfortable option for everyone, especially for younger children (under 5-6 years old) or adults who need more space.

There is barely any mobile signal or internet. For us, this was a blessing, we loved it! A total reset and a perfect break from the online noise. Still, it’s something to be aware of and good to plan ahead with things like sightseeing routes, restaurants, coffee spots, etc. in advance. Especially as the local pub isn’t open every day ;-)

Kids loved making smores by the fire 🔥

No em va agradar Nothing, sadly we only stayed a night due to breaking our journey. Ideally we could of done with another night to explore the area.

Em va agradar We liked the quiet location and charming details the lodge offered. The lady who welcomed us was accomodating and hapoy to help. We had everything we needed. A lovely experience.

Em va agradar Lovely lodge, like a Hobbit house, excellent secure outside space for our dog to explore, quiet & peaceful setting, comfortable bed. Seeing the beautiful cows in the field was an added bonus.

No em va agradar The indoor fire pit is very large & would probably make the lodge smell if you cooked on it, also we wouldn't have been able to sleep with the smell of wood burning as it's very small inside with only 2 rooms, a small log burner inside would have been better as there is a fire pit outside to use. The indoor seating area is very uncomfortable to sit on. No hot water in the lodge. Definitely needs a TV to watch in the evening's, we took our small TV which has an inbuilt DVD slot, so we took some action/comedy DVDs with us, there is no signal so you can't watch normal TV, if you were staying in the winter, it would be nice to watch TV after a full day out. Unfortunately the local pub which was only a 5 minute walk away was closed during our stay.
