If you’re into glamping, you’ll feel right at home at Love2Yurt, a peaceful dog-friendly farm site on the outskirts of the village of Farthinghoe (it’s a mere four-minute walk to the local pub…), which straddles the border between Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. The owners take pride in their mantra: ‘Easy to find but difficult to leave’. The first part is indisputably accurate, since Love2Yurt sits just off the A422, between Banbury and Brackley (both a 10-minute drive away); as for the second part of that little motto… well, if you like the idea of luxury yurts with comfortable beds, heaps of space all around and far-reaching country views, chances are you’ll also find this truthful. The yurts (which sleep between four and ten people) are styled according to different themes, which range from the shabby-chic vibe of the Vintage Yurt (with bunting and wicker chairs) to the North African-inspired den of the Moroccan Yurt, with its rich decorative textiles. In addition to electricity and power sockets, all accommodations come with their own well-appointed washroom with instant hot shower, hand basin and flushing toilet. After preparing your meals in your private fully equipped kitchen (or on the barbecue), you can sit down and linger with your family and friends in the enclosed dining ‘hutte’, with seating, lighting (including fairy lights for setting the mood) and a woodburning fire. There’s a convenience store in Middleton Cheney (five minutes) and lots of supermarkets in Brackley. If you fancy a treat, the on-site tearoom serves breakfasts and lunches, plus afternoon teas with sandwiches and scones.

Em va agradar: Lovely spot, so quiet. The yurt was lovely and we had all we needed. Very dog friendly.

Take a leisurely stroll around the four-hectare Farthinghoe Nature Reserve (five minutes’ drive, or a 25-minute walk), where wildflowers bring colour to a landscape of woodlands and ponds. As well as assorted birdlife (including sparrowhawks) and nocturnal bats, the site is home to dragonflies and butterflies. Those who prefer their green surrounds on the manicured side should head to National Trust Stowe (25 minutes), where they can admire the work of 18th-century landscape gardener Capability Brown. Paths cross vast areas of grassland dotted with ponds, statuary and follies, including the Temple of British Worthies. Get up close and personal with all things Shakespearean at Stratford-upon-Avon (35 minutes). After visiting the half-timbered building where the Bard was born in 1564 (and his wife Anne Hathaway’s cottage), you can catch a performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. When you’re all Barded out, check out the winged inhabitants in the rainforest area of Stratford Butterfly Farm.
