  • Family and dog-friendly park one mile from the Talladega Superspeedway
  • A 20-minute drive from Anniston and 40 minutes from Cheaha State Park
  • Barbecues and fire rings, ATV trails, store and snack shack on site
Whether it’s a beer and barbecue, a trip to a natural swimming hole or a skitter down to the racecourse for the big day, Talladega Pit Stop RV Park and Campground is just the place to hang up one’s hat for a family (or friends') break. This dog-friendly park is practically neighbour to the Talladega Super Speedway where racing events are abuzz throughout the year. Meanwhile, for an outing inspired by waterfalls, boulders and ancient woodlands, Cheaha State Park is 40 minutes’ drive to the east. You won’t need to start your car engine to get to the racecourse – it’s only half an hour’s walk away and you’ll be able to get special race week rates for NASCAR races. Talladega Short Track is even closer – and if you walk on past this littler sibling, there’s a bar and grill or the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. How about those hunger pangs? Well, there are barbecues already on park for you to become boss of the grill, plus a store for those essential food puzzle pieces and a snack shack for nibbles. The park has fire rings to continue on a toasty time, and the occasional seasonal concert for extra entertainment. There's storage on hand for any overflowing backpacks and there are communal fridges to stash away a few cold cans. Activities for all abound here: there are games of pickleball, horseshoes or bounce house, or the park's ATV trails (if you’ve brought one along) and a dog park for dogs to stretch their paws.

Local attractions

How’s your aim? You’ll soon find out at CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park (10 minutes’ drive), a shooting range for hunting rifles, shotguns and pistols. Those of you who prefer a swim to a shoot-out will be in a good patch too, as there are wild swimming holes in the Talladega National Forest… there’s the little pool at Salt Creek Falls (25 minutes) or Devil's Den Falls (35 minutes) for a swimming hole bigger in size, partway along the Chinnabee Silent Trail, a six-mile hike around from creek to mountain. More water on your mind? To the west, there’s the Coosa river and boat rental available at the Poor House Branch Marina (15 minutes). However, those of you who want to stick around the east will have all of Cheaha State Park (40 minutes) to explore, including the Cheaha Falls and a lookout point from the highest point in all of Alabama – 2,407 feet above sea level, to be exact. One with the city bug too? Anniston (20 minutes) has many a metropolitan haunt and the Anniston Museum of Natural History (25 minutes) for a little learning along the way.
