  • Beachfront tipis 20 minutes’ drive from Tulum's ancient ruins
  • Activities, excursions and tours arranged with local guides
  • Wellness centre, pool, coworking space, bar and restaurant on site
At the gateway to Mexico’s Caribbean coastal playground, the Riviera Maya, Selina Tulum is a beachfront glamping site where wellness is top of the to-do list. This is a place where massages, mindfulness and movement classes inspired by ancient Mexican traditions mix with a stunning setting on a palm-lined beach, 20 minutes’ drive from the ancient clifftop Mayan ruins of Tulum. The Yucatan surroundings are spectacular, as is the view out over the Caribbean – but staying close to it all doesn't mean giving up on the idea of having a comfy bed. Cosy bamboo tipis for two are set up so you can fall asleep lulled by the sound of the waves… then wake up for a paddle in the ocean without even having to put your flip flops on. If you're feeling social, join in with drink and draw get-togethers in the bar, or sip sundowners to the soundtrack of local musicians and DJs. Elsewhere on site you can take a dip in the pool, jump online in the coworking space or sign up for all sorts of wellness sessions (for an extra charge). To keep you fed, the restaurant serves up local dishes including grilled fish, spicy tamales, and sweet crunchy marquesitas. Alternatively, make use of the communal kitchen to create your own culinary masterpieces (shops are 15 minutes' drive away in Tulum town).

Local attractions

Have ancient Mayan ruins ever looked this good? Up on a clifftop overlooking the turquoise ocean, the remains at Tulum (20 minutes’ drive) seem to have been put there just for the excellent photo opportunities. Go for the views (and make sure you've got plenty of camera/phone space for pics), but stay for its intriguing insights into the Mayan civilisation. With the Caribbean right in front of your pad, it's safe to suggest you probably won't be content just to look at it… Reef snorkelling, canoeing, scuba diving and paddleboarding – whatever watersports you’re into, there’s a tour that’ll take you out from Tulum (town centre 15 minutes’ drive away). For an underwater experience that's pretty much unique to this area, go with a guide to explore one of the local cenotes: natural freshwater swimming holes surrounded by lush forests with submerged cave systems. Gran Cenote (20 minutes away by car) is a good choice for swims and snorkelling; local dive centres can sort out deeper explores for intrepid scuba sorts.
