  • Pool and children’s lagoon; activity programme; shop and restaurant
With its medieval villages, religious sites and abundant artistic treasures, Umbria deserves thorough exploration, and a pretty good place to start is on Lake Trasimeno. Trasimeno Glamping Resort sits on the southern shore of the lake, about half an hour’s drive from the regional capital Perugia. Obviously the location is a major draw here. The calm waters lapping at the grassy beach (with sun loungers and umbrellas); the silhouette of forested Isola Polvese, in the middle of the lake; lush woodland stretching up the hills overlooking the site… It’s pretty dreamy. But instead of resting on their top location laurels, the owners have doubled down on the comforts, with a range of amenities that includes three pools (one with a waterslide, one with Jacuzzi jets and a shallow lagoon area with sprays for toddlers), a playground and multi-use sports pitches. A lively programme of organised events is aimed at guests of all ages: there’s face painting and drawing for kids, plus afternoon dancing with Spotty the dog, the resident mascotte; the adults can have a go at artisanal workshops, pool games and performance-based activities. A restaurant serves traditional specialities and regional wines; if you get a taste for the local grapes, there are bottles for sale at the well-stocked store, where you can also purchase bits and pieces to cook on the barbecue and souvenirs for your friends back home. For dessert, just stroll to the on-site gelateria and work your way through the flavours on offer. In addition to a toilet block, showers and a washing-up area, the site has charging stations for electric vehicles.
