Peaceful and spectacularly scenic site around a traditional farmhouse

No noise. No traffic. Just a spectacular setting around a traditional farmhouse in peaceful Perugia province, among colourful gardens, easy access to old Umbrian towns like Assisi, Trevi, Spello and Perugia, and a pool with quite the view – pic time now, please... The owners of Il Giardino Degli Elfi advocate an easily slow way of life (you will too when you see these surrounds) along with a serene setting and the best of Umbrian organic food. Fine farm produce is available to buy for those who aim to self cater at the barbecue area; if not, a restaurant awaits to dish up dinners of prime local meats, vegetables from the farm's organic garden and its own extra virgin olive oil. (And if this doesn't appeal on any particular day or you fancy some other fare, the site team can suggest restaurants, festivals and trattorias nearby. These are fably viewsome surrounds (you have perused the pics?), with the site gardens, lawns and splendid pool all set around the old farmhouse, leaving plenty of space for gentle strolls or for naps under an ancient oak tree. All pitches are on grass, spacious and fully kitted out with electric, water and good drainage. Bikes are available for guests' use and plenty of books are to hand for those peaceful times under the trees. Bathrooms with free hot showers; disabled facilities and a coin-operated washing machine are also on site, along with free wifi. Local town Bevagna is under 10 minutes' drive away.

Local attractions

The farm is centrally set for many Umbrian towns such as Spello (20 minutes' drive), Assisi and Trevi (each 30 minutes) and Perugia within 40. If you only have time for one, make it Perugia, the spectacular province capital and university city that dates back to Etruscan times. You'll need at least a couple of days if you can swing it: around the city's ancient buildings for Italian sightseeing but also to take in a few of Perugia's many events and festivals like the Umbria Jazz Festival and Music Fest. Umbria's national gallery is also here, and the fine arts gallery with its huge fresco by Perugino. Another day trip well worth the (hour and five minutes') drive is to Lake Trasimeno, famed in these parts for centuries. Italy's fourth biggest lake is a top spot for swimming, sailing, windsurfing and fishing, and for walking and cycling on its shoreside paths. The Trasimeno Wave Park (Umbria's biggest waterpark) is at the lake too, for active hours on and around the water.
