If easy, breezy seaside days and Italian countryside vibes sound like your idea of bliss, head along to Agriturismo Salos, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from Torre dell’Orso in Puglia’s Salento region. On an organic farm about 10 minutes’ easy wander through traffic-free pine forest from the nearest beaches, the site’s well placed for peaceful rural stays. Set aside an hour or two (every day) for lazing on sand, splashing in sea and strolling under the sun, or simply commit to unwinding in the quiet surrounds of the family-run farm. Days on site will be soundtracked by the rooster’s morning crow and the song of cicadas, while slow-paced games of ping pong and hours passed reading (or napping) in the shade of the pines can fill afternoons. For food, have one of the breakfasts made with organic farm produce, claim one of the communal barbecues or nip over to the small on-site shop to pick up fruit, veg, pasta and eggs. When the time comes to venture off site, the site team will be more than happy to share their local knowledge, and nearby explores are as handy as hiring a bike on site and pedalling off. There’s plenty within reach that’s worth ticking off the list, starting with Torre Sant’Andrea (five minutes’ drive), a stunning beach with crystal clear waters and views of the famed Le Due Sorelle rock formations.

Liked: Camping très agréable et très calme. Nous avons été accueillis superbement. Nous avons pu acheter des légumes de leurs productions qui étaient excellents. Il y a un frigo commun qui est très utile.

Disliked: Rien hormis que nous ayons cherché l adresse notre gps nous amenait ailleurs.

Liked: Campeggio curato, si dorme all'ombra dei pini dove tira un venticello piacevole. Bagni puliti, e a disposizione anche acqua potabile gratuita. Personale molto cortese e disponibile. Bella anche la spiaggia vicina.

Disliked: Purtroppo i pini hanno sporcato un po' la tenda con gocce di resina, ma lo avevamo messo in conto, inevitabile. Durante la notte sale molta umidità che fa aumentare il caldo, ma forse abbiamo beccato una brutta settimana.

Liked: La posizione è strategica in quanto è a due passi dal mare, sono a disposizione diversi servizi, i servizi igienici sono puliti regolarmente.

Disliked: Poca chiarezza del sito, avevo prenotato per una tenda, inserendo le dimensioni della tenda e, quando arrivo in struttura mi dicono che la prenotazione risultava per un posto camper, ritrovandomi così a pagare la differenza. Per quanto riguarda i servizi, tutti i soggiornatori si sono ritrovati con acqua fredda nonostante avessero pagato un gettone per l'acqua calda, ovviamente la struttura ha provveduto al rimborso; ultima pecca è il frigorifero in comune che era molto sporco.

Liked: Mi è piaciuta l'accoglienza, dove la dimensione famigliare si sente ed è una cosa che apprezzo molto. Mi è piaciuto l'ambiente semplice tra gli alberi più o meno ombreggiato a seconda della zona. I sevizi puliti e il personale gentile. La passeggiata per raggiungere la spiaggia è rilassante passando per una tranquilla pianeta. I prodotti da loro coltivati ottimi e biologici. I miei bambini non volevano più andare vie e sinceramente anche i genitori.

Disliked: Non posso dire che ci sia stato qualcosa che non mi sia piaciuto, posso solo dire che se uno va li con il camper e non ha altri mezzi e vuole fare la spesa di carne o altri prodotti che non siano frutta o verdura deve per forza prendere l'autobus, ma se ci si organizza non serve spostarsi, noi infatti siamo rimasti lì e ci stavamo molto bene.

Liked: Ottimo come punto di partenza per visitare le spiagge della zona. Bagni quasi sempre puliti. Buon rapporto qualità prezzo.

Disliked: Piazzole non recintate. Colonnina che non supporta una semplice piasta elettrica da campeggio. Forse l'amper era al minimo perché non ho mai avuto problemi in altri campeggi. Ho dovuto spendere soldi per comprare un fornellino a gas e una bombola per poter mangiare.

Local attractions

This may be a countryside site, but it’s well placed for urban days too: it’s 20 minutes’ drive from base to the coastal town of Otranto, where there’s a UNESCO Old Town to explore, a 15th-century castle to tour, and a Byzantine basilica, a palace and an ecological museum to wander around. More extensive urban experiences are within 40 minutes’ drive in the city of Lecce, with days spent visiting museums and cathedrals, strolling the streets of the Old Town, attending concerts or plays at the Roman amphitheatre, and rooting out bargains at the twice-weekly markets. Prefer to stay out in nature? It’s 35 minutes to the WWF-protected Le Cesine nature reserve if spying out butterflies, reptiles and birds appeals, and Bosco e Paludi di Rauccio Natural Regional Park and its rare wild orchids are 45 minutes from base. Excursions to the easternmost point of Italy are a cinch too – it’s just half an hour away. Even closer to hand are the archaeological sites and the Cave of Poetry in Roca Vecchia (about 15 minutes), but longer excursions (50 minutes) to the opposite coast are recommended for explores of the 12th-century island town of Gallipoli and afternoons splashing about in Splash Parco Aquatico.
