Fishing or bike rides? Both are on the menu at Camping Kanôpée Village, a peaceful, well-appointed park in Trévoux, on the banks of the Saône river in the scenic Ain department. The site is set in a peaceful area on the edge of a river, surrounded by dense, green vegetation. Spacious, shaded and well-maintained, the pitches are all grassy. There's plenty of space to relax and take in the scenery at this park – and plenty to keep the kids busy while the grownups chill out, as in high season the park’s lively entertainment team runs daily activities for junior guests such as arts and crafts, treasure hunts and sports tournaments. Adults, meanwhile, will find a pétanque court. For bicycle rides, head to the edge of the river or the towpath in front of the site. If you'd rather swim, there is a water park in Trévoux, a few kilometres from the site. The Saône is a popular fishing spot (purchase a licence and rent basic equipment at reception). For golfers, there is an 18-hole course 10 minutes' drive away from the site. Colombier Lake, a splendid green setting for a swim, is five minutes' drive away too. The campsite has three well-maintained toilet blocks, as well as wifi.

Liked: A campsite with a beautiful location next to a river. Maintained and clean facilities and very friendly staff!

Disliked: There are recycling bins and you are urged to recycle. However, the bins are not marked and they stand a bit cramped within a fenced area which makes recycling a bit difficult.

Liked: Wir waren auf der Rückreise eine Nacht auf diesem Platz . Sehr freundlicher Empfang, saubere Sanitäranlagen und große Stellplätze mit gutem festen Untergrund, manche auf Gras . Sehr schön an der Saône gelegen. Wir kommen sicher einmal wieder.

Liked: Wir konnten uns einen Platz aussuchen, es wurde keiner zugeteilt. Die Waschräume waren gut zu erreichen und sauber. Direkt neben dem Campingplatz ich ein Fluss, an dem man schön spazieren, joggen oder Fahrradfahren kann. Wir haben hier nur einen Zwischenstopp für eine Nacht gemacht, da es danach weiter ging.

Disliked: Rude staff on arrival, not allowed in the gate until payment taken even though blocking a carpark not allowing people out. Originally said not possible to stay even though we booked months in advance (for a stop over night south of France/Italy to Calais). Reluctant to give the gate code. We only wanted to leave so we could eat! Questioned why we would want to leave. One toilet/shower block shut. The other was not clean flies all over the sink area. Hand soap not provided.

Liked: Schön gelegener Campingplatz an der Saône. Freundlicher und unkomplizierter Check- in für unsere Zwischenübernachtung. Plätze gut anzufahren, gut gepflegt, teilweise schattig. Kleiner Ort fußläufig erreichbar.

Disliked: Waschhaus sehr einfach, nicht besonders sauber. Keine Seife, kein Klopapier.

Local attractions

Pedally peeps will be pleased to learn that a 14-kilometre towpath lies right in front of the site; alternatively, if you’re more into your jumps and dirt trails, head to the Dombes plateau, 23 kilometres from base, to traverse its 16 mountain bike circuits. Two hiking trails are marked out here too if you’d rather take a slower approach. For a city-based jaunt, UNESCO-listed Lyon is around 40 minutes’ drive away, or about an hour and a half on a bike alongside the Saône if you’re feeling particularly energetic. Stick around to sample the city’s famed gastronomy in between exploring sights such as the museum of fine arts, the spectacular hilltop church and museum of Fourvière, and the 14th-century cathedral.

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.

General

In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Quiet hours must be respected between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m..
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and trunks must be closed quietly.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behavior is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.

Hired accommodation

Hired accommodation: €300.00 ($317.26) damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit should no damage/losses be found.
