  • Naturist site in Provence
  • Outdoor pool, restaurant and summer entertainment
  • On the shores of Esparron Lake
What do you reckon to be the bare necessities for a holiday under blue Provence skies? Camping Naturiste Verdon Provence has quite a few: spectacular scenery, a lakeside setting, and nearness to a famed and fab French attraction (the site's local village of Esparron-de-Verdon is at the entrance of the lower Gorges du Verdon). Verdon Provence is a naturist site, set on over 33 hectares of Esparron Lake: see the site pics for the spectacular scenery in which it sits… There's plenty to do on days when you're not off adventuring around the gorges or the local lavender fields, like an outdoor pool and a pétanque court, fishing, ping pong, and Friday night entertainment in high season including music and quiz nights as well as themed dinners. If you fancy fresh French bread for your breakfast, order it in reception to pick it up newly made the next morning; for other eats, the restaurant is open during high season and serves meals to have on the terrace. Other handy additions on site are a laundry room, a washing-up corner and a toilet and shower block. Free wifi is available.

Local attractions

Lovely lakeside and Provencal village Esparron-de-Verdon has a beach for lazy mornings and several independent shops for almost as lazy afternoons; out of town, it's crossed by the GR 4 hiking trail from France's southeast to west coasts. The many cycle trails around the Provence and its lavender fields are also topping options for long scenic days out. But if you're in the area, you must spend much time at the Gorges du Verdon, the deepest gorge in France and a land of spectacular scenery, mountain biking, climbing and kayaking. And – mais oui – hiking: travel along the Sentier Martel trail and the Route des Crètes just to start you off. (If you prefer water, the gorges link five lakes, Esparron, Quinson, Artignosc, Sainte-Croix and Castillon, all well worth days' worth of dreamy activities each.) For village hopping and cuisine sampling, find the rural communes of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Riez, Gréoux-les-Bains and Castellane, to investigate Provcencal specialties like tapenade, olive oil, aubergine caviar and aîoli – all souvenirs to be taken home in bulk.
