It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet family site with a large freshwater lagoon and white beach
- A 15-minute drive from Saumur and the Loire river
- Activities and evening entertainment in summer
Are you going to have a waterly fab time here or what. (Oui, in case you were wondering.) Pack your togs and your beach towel, for Camping Le Pô Doré is centred around a freshwater lagoon with pristinely white sandy beach – and is about 10 kilometres from the Loire river for days (weeks?) worth of canoeing and fishing.
Le Pô Doré is a quiet family site, 15 minutes' drive from Saumur, between the Loire and Thouet rivers and within easy reach of Loire Valley châteaux and the Loire Valley wine route. It's deep in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Natural Regional Park too, for days (weeks?) worth of wandering around its 253,000 hectares of countryside, towns and rivers. Walking and cycling routes start close to the site.
The friendly and cheerful team make it their mission to ensure all guests have a first-rate stay, arranging a wide range of lively summer activities as well as evening entertainment in July and August. Facilities and amenities include a play area, free wifi, toilets and showers.
It's five minutes' drive from Le Pô Doré to the Maine-et-Loire town of Allonnes, but you don't have to leave the grounds for supplies if you'd prefer to spend your hols in and around the lagoon: takeaway food is available and there's a market every Tuesday.

Local attractions
Cross the Loire to get to the excellent old town of Saumur and the 10th-century Château de Saumur, the national tank museum/Musée des Blindés, and spectacular riding shows at Cadre Noir, the École Nationale d'Équitation/National School of Horsemanship. Vineyards including Chinon and Coteaux du Layon surround the town for tastings and tours (and souvenirs).
If you're off on the trail of the vino of Chinon, take some time too for a mooch around its Château de Chinon, an 11th-century royal fortress on the banks of the Vienne. The clock tower at the château entrance is home to the Joan of Arc museum, with exhibits on the lady herself as well as on the Hundred Years War.
Angers is 35 minutes' drive away and Tours 55. Or take pity on your offspring after several townie days by arranging an adventure to the Terra Botanica amusement park just outside Angers, the first plant-themed park in the world.
