  • Eco-friendly site on the edge of the Perigord Limousin natural park
  • A five-minute drive to Espace Hermeline lake and 10 minutes to Châlus
  • Organic meals, saltwater swimming pool, playground and trampolines
If you tend to pick your travel spots to please your palate, this place is certain to suit… the restaurant at foodie fave Camping La Jaurie, five minutes' drive from Ladignac-le-Long, serves meals whipped up mainly from organic produce and accompanied by fine wines hailing from the surrounding Limoges region. Here on a Friday? You’re in luck: it’s the culinary highlight of the week with a fancy four-course set meal served at a cosy communal table (for chats with fellow guests as you chomp). Tuesdays, on the other hand, are all about the woodfired pizzas, while Saturdays and Sundays are dedicated to homemade burgers. Yet fab food’s not all there is to this park – views over farmland, a forest, a river and a walnut orchard all come together to create a spectacular setting, and the countryside’s handsome châteaux and traditional villages are easily accessed too as the park’s right next to the handy D901 road. To explore without the car, ask about the site’s guided bike trips or rent a ride from a shop in Châlus (10 minutes’ drive) and set off alone; using sustainable transport will turn your break at this environmentally-conscious site with solar panels and wind-powered electrics into an even more eco-friendly one. Other amenities at the park are aimed towards families: kids can expect a saltwater swimming pool, a playground, trampolines and an indoor space for damp-day games. The site also arranges donkey rides in the nearby countryside a few times a week.

Local attractions

Take a trek from this park on the many trails that begin right from the grounds (including ones for mini hikers with treasure to seek out along the way) or potter over to the Perigord Limousin Regional Natural Park a couple of kilometres away. After all that, there’s a lake to linger at – Espace Hermeline is five minutes away by car and has a beach to stretch out on after you've cooled off with dips in the water. Miniature golf, forest trails and a zipline are all around here as well, along with a vélorail ride launch point for pedalling along a disused railway line through leafy woodland. Fancy a foray to a photogenic castle instead? You’ll have enough to choose from within a 20-minute drive of the park: the towering Château de Montbrun or Château de Jumilhac are fancy options to visit, while fans of ruins might prefer Château de Lastours and Château de Châlus-Chabrol.
