Local attractions

Many traces and ruins of ancient tribes living here centuries ago are in the area, such as the Guanaco Stone a huge rock carved with petroglyphs dating back to Inca, Diaguita and El Molle ancient times. Choose among the many tours available to visit the surrounding natural reserve or go hiking around the local mountains. Stargazing is one of the most popular activities in this area. The Alfa Aldea observatory offers small, personalised astronomical tours in English or Spanish, and you can also visit Mamalluca Observatory, 9km northeast of Vicuña and one of the most popular attractions in the area. At higher altitudes of 2,200 metres is the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. For a taste of local drinks, visit Pisquera Aba, a family-run pisquera in business for almost a century and with info on the local pisco production. If you prefer beer, take a tour around Cervecería Guayacan.
