  • 20 minutes’ walk to Builth Wells’ pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants
Hands up if you’re after a wild break in Wales – Court Farm Camping is the spot for you. Dog-friendly and excellently wild, this wild camping site is based in oak woods on a working sheep farm. There are grass areas with picnic benches, which make an excellent spot to prop your feet up after a day’s mountaineering, climbing or hiking across Mid Wales. The owners have lived in Mid Wales all of their lives and they’re sure you’ll love it too. The wild wooded valley is 25 minutes’ drive from the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, where there are impressive mountain peaks and lakes further on. The Cambrian Mountains are 35 minutes’ drive away for more mountaineering activities too. That’s not all hiking-wise… with lakes, dams and pretty Powys countryside, Elan Valley (25 minutes) is yet another top spot to break in your walking boots. The visitor centre organises educational activities for kids and adults. The 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path follows an old earthwork structure and passes through Knighton, which is just a 50-minute train ride from the Builth Road station five minutes’ walk away from Court Farm. There’s plenty of countryside scenery on site and the sounds of sheep bleating and birds having a singsong, as you might expect from a sheep farm. If you visit in the spring, new-born baby lambs might be frolicking in the fields too. As a wild camping site, there’s a portable toilet and permission to start a firepit. Builth Wells, 20 minutes’ walk away, has lots of pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants around the river Wye.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Quiet, quaint, clean & beautiful. I felt safe as a solo female on my own. The water was good and the portal's was clean. Picnic tables were an amazing bonus. Perfect distance to Elan Valley and Mid Wales attractions and just off the A road. There is also an honesty shop (I didn't go, just drove past) in case you get stuck so bring cash and you are literally next to builth Road railway station. Suitable for car roof tent camping.

Disliked: N/A

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Loved this campsite nestled in a rural setting. The serene atmosphere was enhanced by the delightful sounds of owls hooting in the evenings, birdsong welcoming the mornings, and even the gentle bleating of sheep. The host was friendly, warmly greeting each new camper and allowing the freedom to select the preferred pitch. Without hesitation, I would recommend this campsite and eagerly look forward to returning in the future.

Disliked: The toilet was not clean when we arrived, and there was no toilet paper available. However, it was pleasing to see that the toilet was cleaned and in a satisfactory condition by the morning.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Beautiful open area among mature trees. Lots of space. We camped with van doors opening between trees with a view of a field of sheep and lambs. Very peaceful and quiet despite easy access from Builth Wells. Friendly hosts. One portaloo perfectly adequate for when we stayed. No queues! Stunning walking from Builth on the Wye valley walk in both directions.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: If you want 'off grid', peace & quiet and beautiful surroundings...can't beat it. We arrived on Bank Holiday Monday in a spell of glorious weather, and had one of the fields to ourselves. We were met by the owner, who was nothing short of superb, and made sure we were happy, knew where to go and assured us if we needed anything, just call. We were blessed with 3 days of glorious weather which was a real bonus, and didn't stray from our vans, as it was some R&R that was needed, though there are plenty of walks to do from the site. OK, so for those wanting, toilets/showers/EHU etc, this is NOT the place for you. Yes there is a 'porta loo' on site, but is for everyones use (though it was spotless when we used it), there is water on site as well, but thats pretty much it. We knew this before we arrived, so find it strange some reviews refer to 'lack of facilities' You get a phone signal, but no wi/fi, which was fie for us. This is basic camping, and what we like, we had 3 days of listening to sheep, birds and a train in the distance....never heard another camper...bliss. Brilliant summer campsite.

Disliked: Nothing. We knew what it was before we arrived so prepared & aware.
