  • Eco-friendly glampsite an easy walk from sandy beaches
  • Half an hour's drive from Cobh and 40 minutes from Cork city
  • Massages, pizza and barbecue nights, and craft cocktails on site
Feel like you’re an inch from meltdown? Avert disaster stat with a getaway at Inch Hideaway, a family-friendly glampsite five minutes’ drive from the village of Whitegate in County Cork. This is a top spot for anyone looking for a break from the outside world: start the chillout time as soon as you arrive by signing up for massages, reflexology or other therapies, and find your happy place among the flowers and trees in the eco-friendly countryside site (have a look at those greenery-filled photos). More active types can seek that zen off site too – it’s a short stroll to nearby Inch beach for days lounging on the sand and peaceful cliff walks along the seafront to the scenic village of Ballycotton (plus there’s an illuminating lighthouse tour in Ballycotton that should be a real beacon for history buffs). Luring guests back to base after busy days isn’t exactly a challenge either: there are regular pizza and barbecue nights, as well as craft cocktails and friendly gatherings next to the cosy campfire as the evenings turn to night. Not feeling too social? Woodfired stoves and private gardens are at every yurt so getting some alone time is easy, and the local pub is a 25-minute walk away for a quiet pint or two.

Local attractions

Want to start off with a healthy dose of history? The site's half an hour’s drive from Cobh, the last port of call of the Titanic. Sail here for the Titanic Experience museum and highly recommended tours of the former prison on Spike Island. Cork's less than 40 minutes away for urban days – if there’s only time for a few things, a tour of Cork City Gaol, viewing the artworks at the Crawford Gallery, and flitting between stalls in the spectacular English Market are absolute musts. Tick an Irish classic off the bucket list with a longer jaunt in the car: make a pitstop on the other side of the city for a tour of Blarney Castle (yes, that Blarney) and to pick up gifts (other than the gift of the gab) at Blarney Woollen Mills, both within 50 minutes of base. Keep kids entertained on energy-filled days with surf lessons at Swell Surf School, and kayaking, snorkelling, archery and tree climbing at ECO Adventures, both within 10 minutes. If they’re in a more laidback mood, head instead to Fota Wildlife Park 25 minutes away for wanders among lions, tigers and (red panda) bears. Fancy a tipple and a nibble? Make the 20-minute journey into Midleton for a tour and tasting at the Jameson Distillery in town, then wander on to Ballymaloe House for cookery classes or a meal.
