  • Scenic site on the Lynher tidal river at the Tamar valley’s edge
  • A 20-minute drive from Plymouth and 25 from Looe and its beaches
  • Access to wifi and a six-mile wander along the river’s banks
Lingering by the Lynher River is a pursuit all visitors to Cornwall should partake in – and it doesn’t get easier to do so than by netting yourself a stay at the family-friendly Notter Bridge Park. This site sits along the tidal waterway, which attracts a host of wildlife ranging from herons fishing for brown trout to the occasional seal that’s come too far upstream. It’s around a 20-minute drive from Plymouth and on the edges of the Tamar valley. The park is fantastic for folk hoping to explore the surrounding beaches, countryside trails, manor houses and cycling paths. Got a kayak? Take to the water (or simply set off on foot along a six-mile walk that traces the riverbanks). Many more places to wander are nearby, so have a chat with the site’s owners once you arrive if you’re after specific recommendations. Cycling spots in the area include the Tamar Trail, the Camel Trail, Cardinham Woods (35 minutes) and the Lanhydrock Estate (35 minutes), while Adrenalin Quarry (15 minutes) is set up for ziplining, coasteering and – best of all – riding a massive clifftop swing. There are also lots of local eateries in the area, including an inn a few minutes’ walk from the site. Looe, Cawsand and Kingsand beaches are all accessible within half an hour by car.

Liked: Such a beautiful setting, so clean and tidy and very helpful wardens. I work in London so it was so nice, I loved every minute and will be back.

Disliked: The only thing I disliked was having to leave.
