Powered grass campsite

Liked: Lovely peaceful site, with lovely large pitches Really helpful and friendly staff, We only stayed for one night as we were using this as a stop over on the way back home Loads for the children to do, as it is part of Stonham Barns, even though we didn't go to or use there is a good playpark on the Campsite, and then plenty of old cars and trucks dotted around the village which we walked around Showers and Toilets were clean and showers were hot Was lovely touch of having fire pits and wood to get yourself a little camp fire going which made our evening really lovely watching the sunset Close to seaside spots such as Southwold and Aldeburgh, and Dunwich Good Location as a base

Disliked: The only things we didn't like was that for us pulling a caravan the access road than turns off the main drive as you come in was small and there were quite a lot of vans coming out, shame there wasn't a passing place built in, however this is a small gripe, The other thing was the Elsan point for emptying toilets I didn't think was all that good as it felt quite close to the toilets and showers which isn't very nice for people walking past, and was no surface water drainage so got quite a big puddle building up on the concrete pad from just using the fresh water to rinse We are used to the Caravan club sites who build a larger area for this and usually either enclosed or with fencing around, which makes it a bit more pleasant for people walking past, The other thing is there isn't a specific place to empty grey waste, I was told to empty into the Elsan which is fine, but meant lifting up onto the plinth, which could be difficult for someone who struggles with lifting, shame there wasn't a specific surface water drain cut into the concrete pad that would facilitate this, Toilets and showers could perhaps do with new flooring in as some of this has cracked in places These are only small points I picked up on, which is no disrespect to the campsite as It was great, but hopefully something they can look at to improve their facilities

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Plenty to do at Stonham Barns - shops, crazy golf etc Liked be able to hire a fire pit.

Disliked: Washing up sink very low (especially if you're a tall person). Would be good to have a roof over them for shelter from rain. Need extra staff to help with cleaning etc as present staff so busy.

Disliked: Stonham barns has had a fortune spent on it. BUT, and a big but... The toilet & shower blocks are not good at all. At times, you felt like you could fall through the floor when the toilets. And the showers were always cold! Shame

Liked: very friendly staff and very helpful, shower were cold to them and were fixed straight away.

Disliked: could do with looking into putting some sort of drainage into the pitch as had really heavy rain whichever cast the ground to become water logged

Liked: Vast clean areas to walk barefoot. Bar. Entertainment. Ease of access. Staff. Food was basic but amazing. Lots to do for all ages.

Disliked: Showers were abysmal and my kids wouldn't use them but that was the men's. Hopefully the ladies showers are much better. Not a great signal for kids phones and no WiFi outside of the bar.

Local attractions

With all the attractions on site, it might be a while till you look outwards in search of entertainment. However, when you do, the Suffolk coastline is splendidly within reach, as the site is on the A1120 tourist road. Thorpeness (50 minutes' drive), Aldeburgh (45 minutes) Southwold (50 minutes) deliver on walks, watersports and simple seaside amusements. This is also an excellent place to channel your inner historian and deep dive into the past. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) is a Norman castle with a walk across the 10-metre-high walls. Sutton Hoo (half an hour) is just as spectacular, with two medieval cemeteries where a ship with Anglo-Saxon pieces was found. Perhaps pretty walks and eating out in restored Victorian buildings next? Snape Maltings (40 minutes) on the river Alde is a splendid setting for strolls and cycles, whether around the riverside loop or joining the Suffolk Coast Cycle Route 41. Take in the scenery on a river boat or sip on something caffeinated in the many independent eating venues in the Victorian buildings.
