Liked: Great site, lovely welcome from the warden Georgie, fantastic clean bathrooms and water so warm, we had lovely pitch beside the canal bank and managed to watch two swans with their four signet babies on the back of the mother cruise by, lovely walk along the canal and the pub (the George) so hand for drinks and food. Would certainly recomend this site.

Liked: What a fab place. A little gem with beautiful walks. Lovely pub on site. Toilets and showers clean and tidy. Georgia that welcomed us on site was lovely, very welcoming with a lovely smile. We will definitely be back. We didn’t eat in the pub but our friends had the roast and said it very very large and really tasty.

Disliked: None. All positive for us.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: The overall size of the park was small, quiet and intimate. Georgia on reception was very welcoming. The main shower block was well maintained and exceptionally clean. An added security of the key card to enter/leave the site and use the shower block brought a sense of safety. The added bonus was the pub for easy dinners and breakfast. Finally the river was lovely and great for a post dinner walk.

Disliked: Only negative was the single toilets to the edge of the park needed to be more regularly cleaned.

Liked: Great site with excellent shower facilities. Good playground and a good pub on site. Quiet site which wasn't too busy and had a brilliant pitch set up with nice high hedges between to maintain privacy. Great to be able to walk into the country side directly from the campsite.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: What a fantastic little site with lovely, helpful people running the site. Only around 20-25 pitches on either side of a single path. Pub right next door serving great food and drink. Lovely play area for the children. Decent sized pitches in pairs, separated from other pairs by tall hedges. River walk alongside. Fantastic toilet and shower facilities. Each shower room has a large shower, toilet and sink and plenty of room for showering small children without hassle.

Disliked: Personally I wouldn’t like to be pitched on the riverside with small children as there is no fence between the pitch and river, however this would be lovely with older children or adults only. The entrance to the toilet block area is off the public footpath which made me a bit uneasy at night. (I never saw anyone, just my overactive imagination.)

Local attractions

Use this place as a base to get to the best of Gloucestershire and its surrounds, whether you want countryside or city days in the likes of Bristol, Cheltenham and Bath. (It's a safe bet you'd like a day at Cheltenham Racecourse, 20 miles away, too.) Two miles away, the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust's Slimbridge reserve gives juicy chances to see resident ducks, swans and thousands of migratory birds alongside stacks of events like otter feeds, guided walks and canoe safaris. If it's more greenery you're after, several excellent options are an easy drive away: the 22-acre village green at Frampton on Severn, said to be the longest in England, within a five-mile drive; scenic strolls along the River Severn, within four miles; the National Trust's Westbury Court Gardens, seven miles away, and Stroud's hidden valley Painswick Rococo garden eight miles away (be sure to see the snowdrops if you're there in season). Also recommended by the team are Gloucester Docks and the National Waterways Museum, ten miles away; Woodchester Mansion, an odd and unfinished country house surrounded by National Trust parkland (four and half miles), and 11th-century Berkeley Castle (five miles), thought to be the place where poor old Edward Two saw his last day.
