  • Relaxed family-run site in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest
Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails. As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake. Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking. Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Wow! A small campsite but has exactly what you need. Greenacres were very accommodating for our family and friends - they ensured it pitches were together. Dog friendly too, which is always a bonus. Fire pits, kindling and wood you are able to hire/buy. They have a lovely little shop/cafe with fresh coffee ❤️ clean facilities with hot running water. There is a walk a 2 min walk where dogs can go off the lead and it's 15 min walk into the town. Staff were so friendly, always offering to go the extra mile. Thank you for a lovely stay

Disliked: Can get muddy but that's part of the fun! Don't forget your wellies

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Second time we've been here and it's a great site, the pitches are huge and very relaxed about set ups. The facilities are always very clean and warm inside. You don't feel crowded there at all and the best part for us is being able to sit around an open fire! Love it here!

Disliked: Only negative was there was no one around on the Saturday after 4 so we couldn't get any logs which they didn't let us know about but we soon picked some out at the local petrol station.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Good sized pitch. Shop facilities and laundry room. Staff were attentive and monitored noise when asked. Friendly staff towards the children and campers. Great field and park for kids to run around. Gate to walking path on site. Gave us the option to re-arrange due to rain and mud.

Disliked: Didn’t pick message up from pitch up for friends to be pitched together- advised to email directly in future. Only one toilet block - quite a walk when pitched at top of the field.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Loved the size of pitches, the facilities were all clean and modern, site overall well maintained and the area surrounding the site was perfect for our needs (dog walking and toddler play park just along the public footpath). Price was also very reasonable for our stay.

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away. Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site. Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
