Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Location was great, close to Mam Tor and within reach to Kinder Scout through Edale. Owner was very good and toilets were kept super clean.

Disliked: £20 a night for a 1 man tent is quite expensive as you pay for pitch not person. Especially for a site without showers

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The views from the site are spectacular. It's a short walk from Castleton and several caves, caverns and old minds with guided tours. The site is on a slope, but it wasn't too difficult to find a less severe spot when arriving mid-afternoon. The onsite portaloos were spotless with soap and sanitiser dispensers. There is also a pen with goats and chickens, the chickens can get out and one seemed to be very interested in one of the group's shoes, and there are sheep and cattle in the surrounding fields. Last but not least, the owner of the site was welcoming and friendly.

Disliked: Nothing, the site is basic but what is there is great. The 1 star for Wifi is simply because there isn't any, but phone signal was fine. There is quite a bit of animal noise, mainly the goats and sheep, but that can be mitigated.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Very friendly owner who was helpful and kept the place very clean. The overall site was great with plenty of space for you to pick your pitch area. The toilets were clean. Loved seeing the goats and chickens that were on site!

Disliked: We didn’t like that there were no sinks to wash hands in the toilets. Just hand sanitizer. There’s a tap next to the toilets but a proper sink, even just one where the tap is, with hand soap would be better. It was super noisy. People were playing music and shouting until 2am. We don’t recommend staying here on a weekend unless you don’t mind all the noise.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Great campsite. Friendly owners. The site is on a hill as warned before booking and decided to change the position of our airbed to face our feet down the slope the second night so that my husband didn’t keep rolling on me 😂 but all in all wasn’t an issue. Perfect location to start your hike up mam tor and we ended our walk in the village of Castleton where there were plenty of pubs for some food and a really great sandwich shop! Only about 10/15 minute walk back to the site along a pavement. The views from the campsite are also fab! And the chickens and goats (there were 2 babies which we loved) were a great addition. There are multiple portaloos which the owner kept replenishing with loo roll and cleaning, but by the end of the bank holiday weekend were about full. I did use the loos as she was cleaning them on our last morning and she said she was shocked at how quick they were ready to be emptied this weekend but it was a busy bank holiday! As a couple we enjoyed a camp fire, played music and went to bed about midnight. There were a couple of groups still up playing music and laughing. This didn’t bother us at all but if you want a quiet spot you’d be best going to the top end of the field.

Disliked: We couldn’t find any bins to dispose of our rubbish so bought it home with us. We hadn’t asked so there may have been some but we couldn’t clearly see any.
