Coastal spots like Southwold and Lowestoft are about an hour away and are home to gorgeous views, boats and beaches. Bury St Edmunds (half an hour), meanwhile, is the place to go for a spot of retail therapy; there are also views of the town's ancient abbey to admire in between the shopping. Drive 30 minutes down the road to Ipswich (and Briarbank Brewing Company, to be precise) if you want to experience the breadth and depth of Suffolk's artisanal booze; stick around in town for scenic strolls through Christchurch Park or along the marina.
