The entire experience at the site. When we arrived, though the receptionist was polite, she didn’t really seem to know much about the stay. We were given a tag for the tent but no number for the pitch. So we arrived in the field and just had to find a spot that we could fit in. Kids were playing football very close to the cars and several times as we were setting up the ball would hit our tent. We visited the on-site pub for our evening meal. The wait for the bar was irritating and this also turned out to be the case for the food. The food was overly expensive for the mediocre quality. In the morning we visited the cafe for breakfast at 8:30 since we were told that was when it opened. The person working there walked past and said “I hope you don’t have your hearts set on a breakfast because we don’t open for an hour” When I pointed out that the menu, door and even the receptionist told us that it opened at 8:30, she said “it needs changing, I guess I could do you a slice of toast or you can go to the pub” So we went to the pub. Stood around in the waiting area for around 15/20 minutes waiting for someone to appear. There was another couple already eating breakfast so we knew it was open. Eventually someone sheepishly came around the corner and asked us what we were doing. I told them that we were wanting ti get a breakfast. Puzzled she gave us a confused look and said, “are we staying with us?” When I told her we were, she again looked confused and said “what? In the hotel?” When we said no, we were camping. She gave the biggest sigh, rolled her eyes and told us that they don’t do breakfast for campers….. Shocked we said we had been directed over here by the cafe. She then said well they shouldn’t be doing that and that she has already had to turn people away today. By this point, my partner and I were very insulted and had decided not to stick around any longer. She gave another big sigh and said “well we’ve got a paid menu, this once I can let you order something from it” Somehow insinuating that we expected a free breakfast up until this point?! I told her that we would pass and we left. It was one of the rudest experiences of my life.
My partner and I left for the nearby towns, had a good day out and about and returned to the site tired. On our arrival, another family, clearly also confused by the lack of direction about where their pitch was located, had set up their tent so close to ours that I had no where to park my car and we would not be able to access our tent without pushing past theirs.
At this point we were completely fed up and just wanted to leave. So we packed our tent up and drove home. I pride myself on being able to make the best of bad situations and enjoy the experience, but there was no redeeming quality of this site that could keep me there.
I’ve been to many campsites in the past and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with a site. The staff are rude beyond belief, we were completely gobsmacked by how we were spoken to in the pub, the only person that spoke to us like humans was the receptionist.
The field is fine, but frustratingly disorganised.
The food is overly expensive and underwhelming.
The facilities may have been the best in the world, but we decided not to use them to avoid any condescending comments about how they may not be available for “campers”
There’s better places nearby that cost less money, are just as well situated and actually acknowledge that some people enjoy camping and are not looking for free breakfast!
Awful place.
