Non mi è piaciuto: This was the dearest site we have ever stayed on, it's a small footprint with lots of pitches, we booked an xl pitch but personally was the smallest pitch we have ever had, compared to other fully serviced pitches. Not much to do around the area, the lake looks nice but no seats/viewpoints/picnic spots. No large supermarkets near so be prepared to pay max prices in the town shops. Chippy was nice but card only. Our experience felt cramped along with kids zooming along on bikes everywhere, pulling wheelies as no areas for them to play in. We did leave a day early.

Non mi è piaciuto: Unfortunately I didn’t feel like the shepherds hut we stayed in was very secure while staying with a young child and a small dog. The stable door didn’t have a lip to keep the doors shut together, with the bottom just being shut with a slide latch which wasn’t very secure either. When pointed out to the member of staff they then went inside the reception where a friend was checking in, she said ‘well apparently it was my fault’ which I feel is unprofessional to say in front of other customers. The other staff were lovely just that experience for me put a bit of a downer on it.

The door to the Shepherd's Hut is secure when the latch at the bottom is bolted and the top door either locked or closed with the separate latch on the outside.
We were alerted to a dog running loose on the site and very close to the road that runs alongside the site. 2 members of staff as well as some of the guests were attempting to catch it but nobody could get anywhere close. This was very concerning as it was a busy Friday at check in time. Once we realised it was your dog, we tried phoning you but couldn't get an answer. Eventually we saw you walking back from the amenity block and this was when you spoke to the member of staff about your concerns regarding the door. She explained that the door could be secured (as explained above) but suggested it may not be suitable to leave the dog unattended without locking the unit properly. She was extremely worried after the incident with the dog as all of the members of staff on site are dog owners and were terrified of the dog getting hit when we couldn't catch it nor get anywhere close.

Quiet time is from 10:30pm so I'm glad everything quietened down by then, there is always an emergency number on the front door of Reception if things carry on too late into the night, with the warden living on site, they are always on hand if needed.

We always wonder why guests leave us negative feedback regarding the price of the site as you knew the price when booking, so if you felt it was too dear, why not look for somewhere else?
We are only a small site but the pitches are evenly spaced with lots of grass areas scattered in between.
We have to disagree with your comment stating that there is not much to do in the local area; we are within an hour's drive of most major attractions, we have watersports galore for the thrill-seekers and beautiful lakes, waterfalls and walks to explore. The lake has lots of benches and picnic spots - if you were to pop into Reception we could have pointed you in the direction of our favourite places to enjoy too.
The major supermarkets are a 45mins drive away but online deliveries can be organised to bring your groceries straight to your pitch. Alternatively there are 2 convenience shops in town along with local greengrocers and butchers too - it is up to guests to research where they are staying and not to mark us down as a site for things that are out of our control.
Visiting us in the Summer holidays inevitably means that there will be a high volume of kids on site as we are a very popular holiday destination for families.
Sorry to hear you won't be visiting us again or recommending us to your friends, but hopefully any future guests won't be deterred by this review.
