The pods were clean and offered the basic essentials for ‘camping’, along with bedding and pillows. With a 5 month old, the usual tent camping seemed too tricky, so this was a great alternative. The personal toilet/shower/sink was clean and well-kept. The grounds were well-kept and orderly. The playground was a blessing for young children and the shop on-site was handy too.

The swimming booking system doesn’t work and this isn’t made clear on the website info. You can’t book swimming until you check in, which isn’t until 4pm with camping pods but is much earlier with tents, so by the time we arrived to check in, all swimming slots were taken. I expressed my disappointment with this to the staff in reception, who did not seem too concerned or flexible, and kept just responding that this is the process in place- like this would help me explain to my 3 year old. However, by chance my sister-in-law was buying milk from the shop the next day and they had just opened another slot up for that day so we managed to get a slot. I’m not sure why this wasn’t offered when I was showing my disappointment about this but had my sister-in-law not have been in the shop at that time, we wouldn’t have known about it. It just doesn’t seem like the most effective system in place and I feel it could be reviewed.

The park was good and the swimming pool

Glamping pod was awesome!! Clean and well designed, we really enjoyed our stay. Just what we needed as a base to visit Alton Towers.

Shop available, hot food in the evening. Pool and a park for children. The bell tents deserve more exposure as they are another level of tent camping. Ideal for busy families who get away only for the weekend.

More toilet/shower locations would be great for tents/glamping area. At times these were messy and it seemed that they were used by too many people to manage the cleanliness. The wash up area could benefit from a little care. No WiFi access to the bell tents area.

Although I didn't need it, the childrens play area was well thought out, had plenty for them to do and is large enough to cope with plenty of kids.

Availability of the indoor swimming pool

The casual camping field is on a reasonable slope set away from the facilities, it can take quite a while to walk to them, especially if camping on the far side of the field.
The facilities themselves are insufficient for the amount of people camping and in the pods. There are only 4 showers and 5 cubicles. The showers don't stay on long enough, even if you are trying to save water. There are no seating or shelves in the shower cubicles, just a hook for all your clothes and stuff.
There is only one water tap on the camping field, set at one corner.
The security barrier is never lowered, even during the night.
There is very limited lighting so walking at night can be treacherous.
Toilets were not cleaned often enough and covered in toilet roll, when there was any.
I am sorry to say but this site is not set up for casual camping at all, it appears that it is set up to be a money making exercise only

This site cost considerably more than similar sites in the area, but we were happy to pay a premium for a swimming pool. The pool was closed the first day, we were reassured it would be open the second day - it wasn't.
Every single cubicle in the ladies and gents toilets were without toilet paper for the entirety of one morning (Saturday).
