Henry is super friendly. So nice to have a secluded pitch. The showers though unheated and not private are very powerful. Great to be able to have fires. Very affordable. We did shooting too which was fantastic

It was easy to find and well signposted when we arrived we just had to have a wander about to find our spot (which I found added to the experience) I would definitely stay there again.

Cold showers, maybe the option of a warm shower would be nice, I know cold water showers are supposed to be good for your health but I’m not one of those people I like a nice warm shower but not a deal breaker

It is quiet, and almost as wild as you can get.

What's not to like? Wild camping with toilets!! And speaking of toilets, don't let the compost put you off..these toilets smelt cleaner than most public lavs!!

We pitched in the sleepy hollow that is no. 27. Our tent was possibly a little bit big but it worked. After mooching round the site we've decided we want to try just about every pitch.

You can hear the nearby A37 but it's not intrusive at all.

We feel like we've found a little patch of peacefulness less than half an hour from home and can't wait to come back soon.

Not knowing which pitches were free without walking round the site but that's being really picky!

This was our first time camping I loved the fact it was quiet with good space between pitches. There is not a lot to do on site though for children my daughter still loved it though my son was less convinced.

Found it all a bit confusing when we arrived but maybe that is because we had not been camping before.

I loved the peaceful laid back atmosphere of this site, it was really cool and Henry Dagger was lovely, really friendly and helpful. Henry supplied us with some delicious Bantam eggs, which I have never had before - if you like a proper campsite with your own space and no frilly nonsense this is the place for you.

As much as I love basic, I think if I were to stay longer than a few days hot water would be amazing

I have stayed at Dagger Wood with my young adult son for four nights in May/June 2023. My son chose the site, and I would say he made an excellent decision.
We chose a nice sunny pitch and our stay was very pleasant. This is certainly the campsite of choice for peace and quiet and to get away from it all. Listening to the dawn chorus of birdsong was delightful. During the day we visited several National Trust properties within an hour’s driving time and so the campsite was for us an ideal base. Unfortunately, at the time of our visit, road works and diversions at nearby junction on the main road complicated the navigation.
I did not use the shower. I cannot say that I am fond of cold showers and showering in swimwear. My son and I used number of solar shower bags (ex-Aldi) and an unused 70 litre builders’ tub for ‘showering’ and keeping clean. This worked very well and due to the nature of the site, a fair degree of privacy can be obtained. Indeed, we were out of sight of other campers who were say 50 m around the corner of a stand of trees. Perhaps as a suggestion, a shower could be constructed which is screened from the car park with a hedge and to consider solar panels.
Looking at other reviews, I would say that in the main they are a good reflection on the nature of the woodland campsite. Yes, you will hear some traffic noise and some aeroplanes, but it does not dominate the soundscape. Yes, there is a gravel track from the road to the parking area and the stones need time or a bit of help to bed into the ground. All very minor points.
We did find time to walk along the old railway track. It was very pleasant. We did not hear any motorbikes during our stay. I like to think it was a problem of the past.
To sum up, it is a back to basics camping experience. Embrace the great outdoors, take only what you need and just enjoy being in nature. For the small amount we paid, I would say it was excellent value for money.

The camp site was big enough to feel secluded but happy to see the odd wanderer pass by or hear the odd voice at night. Henry was really friendly and helpful and we really loved our stay. With lots of spots close by we were never short on what to do but also it was so relaxing we found we ended up really unwinding and just chilling out on site. We hadn't really 'wild camped' before and had only ever experienced festival compost toilets so to say we were dreading it was an understatement but that being said our fears were completely unfounded. It always felt as clean as it possibly could. I would definitely stay here again and want to do so to get back to see some of those sites we missed whilst relaxing!
