When you’re keen to stay active on your Portuguese holiday, you can have riding lessons or go out on treks from the local equestrian centre (five minutes’ drive), go swimming in the open air at Freamunde or play a round at Aviz Golf Club. There are also lots of hiking or cycling options on the trails through the Serra da Ermida (all 10 minutes) meadows and woodland. There’s plenty of family fun to be had between the waterslides and splash fountains at Piscinas Scorpio, or you can tire youngsters out on the playground at Circuito de manutenção de S. João - Codessos (both half an hour). Here you can also take older kids on shaded walks through the cork forest. More high-octane pursuits needed? Petrol-heads can follow courses of varying skill levels at Voltas de Rodas - Complexo Desportivo (five minutes), while hardcore mountain bikers test their abilities on steep courses at Pista de Downhill Sousela (10 minutes).
