Very basic site close to Windermere

Aug 2024

Liked Location - the site is right on Windermere and you can walk right to the lake Relaxed - you can pick your own pitch and there is no 24/7 warden or staff on site The horsebox - a little horsebox selling drinks, sweets, hiring fire pits, etc The barn - has table and chairs, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and ping pong table and seemed popular with a lot of campers for socialising. There was also a corner for unwanted camping gear that other campers could use if needed. Very little light pollution so gorgeous night skies, when not cloudy!

Disliked Toilets - we visited last year and the toilets were cleaned and restocked morning and evening however this year the morning visit seemed to have stopped, meaning the toilets got very muddy, especially with Storm Lilian, and the loo roll ran out overnight or by early morning. Relaxed - there is nothing to ensure rules are adhered to, so dogs are off lead and running around and groups are playing music and/or talking loudly all night. Price - overpriced for the facilities, which are two shipping containers with 3 toilet and 3 small shower cubicles. There are three sinks under a small shelter with hot/cold water for washing up; I'm 5'10 and found them a bit low. Highly recommend visitors bring their own trolley or similar. The site does not allow cars onto the camping field and provide 3 wheelbarrows to cart stuff, which is not enough for how busy the site is and people tend to hoard them.s

Gorgeous little site

Feb 2023

Liked The site is nice and easy to get to and just round the corner from a pub. The owner met us at the gate and discussed where we could pitch. We got on a little two-pitch corner that needed a motor-mover to get onto but nicely out of the way which was good for our dogs. We really liked the conversation and having the choice. The pitch was next to the road but the noise wasn't intrusive and the view past it was gorgeous. There was a gents and a ladies toilet/shower block that was kept clean and well stocked with the essentials. The toilet was in its own little room with a lock and the shower was in another lockable room with the sink in the middle of the two. The shower room was spacious enough to have room for all your dry stuff, with four handy hooks, and a nice little stool. I'm fat (UK32/34) and found the showers themselves a little tight but useable. I appreciate I'm outside of the norm but I always like to know the size of loos and showers so hopefully this'll help someone. The dog field was great to let the pups have a run around and do the necessary. There is a bit of a slope from the gate that got a bit muddy and there are no lights down there so, as recommended by the site owner, make sure to bring a torch! It also gets a bit dark by the showers & loos. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back, thoroughly recommend!

Good site for families, clean and friendly

Jun 2022

Liked •The communication was great, loads of information provided and a good map to find our pitch and loos etc •The site felt very secure with codes for the vehicle entry gate, the laundry room, and the toilets •The staff were very present and visible, driving around the site in golf buggies at least once or twice a day and always friendly and helpful •Lots of toilets with two blocks for male and the same for female, all kept clean and maintained as we saw both a maintenance guy and a couple of cleaners during our stay •The site was kept very clean in general with plenty of bins and water taps dotted around along with recycling bins •Great location for London with a bus stop less than 5min walk and a regular service up to 1am (at least!)

Disliked •Showers were in the toilet rooms and very small, basically a toilet cubicle with a shower instead of a loo and two hooks on the inside of the door - nowhere else to leave towel or dry clothes or put toiletries and nowhere private to dry/dress meaning people have to walk back to tent/van in their towel or stand in the toilet block to dry off •Site is in a weird location at the back of an estate with a leisure centre and cinema between the main road and the site, leading to a confusing drive round car parks towing a caravan hoping we're in the right place with high speed bumps •Whilst each pitch had a little number painted at the front, there were no markings as to size of pitch and whether the number was in the centre or to one side so we weren't sure if we were taking up too much room. Thankfully we didn't have immediate neighbours but could be awkward in busy times •Chemical disposal was awkward and we had some splashback if it came out too fast and hoses for rinsing cassette were usually found hanging in the chemical disposal (take gloves!)

An excellent cheap basic site perfect for a getaway to recharge

Jul 2017

Liked Everything, particularly the free standing toilet that serves as the waste disposal point

Disliked Not so much a dislike but more defined pitches might be helpful as we weren't sure how much room we could take up
