Set just off Highway 288B, this family-friendly site is between Angleton (five minutes’ drive) and Richwood (five minutes), so you’ll be well-based for buzzy bars, restaurants and local history museums. You won’t be without well-equipped facilities either, as the site has washers and dryers at your disposal and a wifi connection ready for you to plot out your next port of call. Perhaps a shopping trip to one of the centres five minutes’ drive away? Or perhaps you’ll want to map out the way to the ocean, where there are beaches, kayak launches and wildlife refuges? The pitches are all spacious and you’ll have your pick of a gravel or concrete plot. Whether you’re staying for a night, week or month, it’s easy to get cosy here, as barbecues are allowed in the evenings and dogs and families are welcome too, so no one has to be left behind. When it comes to places to eat out, there’s a good situation around here, even for those of you who are on the pickier side, as Angleton and Richwood have everything from fast food joints to Italian restaurants and cutesy little cafés and ice cream parlours.

Local attractions

With all the buzz of the city life about, a beach day might be just what you need in between. Handily, Bryan Beach (20 minutes’ drive) has just the three-mile stretch of sand for laying back, fishing or birdwatching. Further along the coast, you might want to comb through the beach park at Surfside Jetty County Park (25 minutes) in search of shells or move onto the nearby Seahorse beach (45 minutes), near to a kayak launch that's well-situated for a paddle around Christmas Bay. If you’re looking to have a nosy into the local wildlife too, Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge (15 minutes) is to the east, and with 43,000 acres across the refuge, you’ll be in a prime spot to spot wildlife and birdlife. Those of you looking to face off with crocodiles instead will find these sharp-toothed beasts at Crocodile Encounter (15 minutes) – options include feeding the giant tortoises, stroking snakes or coming face-to-face with the big Nile crocodile. Into the big city… Houston (45 minutes) has plenty to do, whether it’s a stroll around the city parks, the zoo, a space centre or chucking a few back in a beer garden. Closer by, there’s the Stephen F. Austin statue in Angleton (five minutes) or the Brazoria County Historical Museum (five minutes).
