  • Peaceful and pretty site in the Swiss Alps, close to riverside trails
  • Within half an hour's drive of several thermal baths/spas
  • Restaurant with a terrace, play area and a pétanque court on site
Just simply spectacular... As you may have figured out from the pictures, Camping Simplonblick is a scenic and spacious place, made up of green grounds, colourful flowers and facilities that will keep you occupied from morning to night. Set just off the main road in Raron in Upper Valais, it's easily accessible by car, motorcycle or public transport and a central base for making day trips to popular Valais attractions. This is a self-check-in site with no staffed reception, so upon your arrival, you get to pick your own pitch. You may fancy cooling off in the pool (open during high season only) or heading over to the table tennis tables, pétanque court, play area or trampoline. After you're done with your activities, you may want to unwind at the on-site restaurant, which has a roomy terrace. The site has many modern and well-kept amenities and services: it's so clued up that it even has its own gas station. Surroundings await for active and scenic times too: it's minutes away from hiking trails around the Rhône river and five minutes' walk away from the cable car to the ski stations of Eischoll and Unterbäch, and within driving distance of toboggan rides, glaciers, the Matterhorn and the world's highest revolving restaurant. To add to that, there are several thermal baths/spas within half an hour's drive of the site.

What customers say

Great spot with amazing mountain views and super clean, modern facilities. Spacious pitches, friendly staff, good restaurant & pool. Minor gripes include road noise, patchy WiFi & impersonal check-in. Most love it and want to come back.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very scenic, but beware the swiss holiday period from the 20th to the 26th as mist places are closed or close very early, even the camp site restaurant was shut, but not shown when looking at booking. However it's a good clean site with access easily by train or bus to lots of places, with mountain reaches a short walk away, very good indeed. Never saw any staff so can't saywhat they were like. Highly recommend a stay here.

Disliked Local town basically shut while we were there.

Electric grass pitch

Liked This place has quite a few bad reviews and we don’t understand why, we had a lovely stay here. It is easy to avoid to the road train on route, google maps will try and take you that way but it’s avoidable - plan ahead and you might even end up on a mountain pass on route. The facilities are amazing, they look brand new and they are so clean and well maintained. We had plenty of space on our pitch and it was not crowded at all. Cable cars nearby for a quick trip too which is fun. Self check in and out so didn’t interact with staff but it was all very easy.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The view of the mountains were lovely. Toilets and showers were sparkling clean.
The washing machine was very cheap, there is a big freezer for everyone to use.
There are baby facilities, they could use a baby mat in there for a changing station, and a bin for nappies.
All pitches were watered and maintained well.
The pool was lovely and refreshing after a warm day, the gravel was really rough on your feet around the pool.
There is no gate around the pool or pond so it’s not lockable at night.

There are lovely places to go in the area which was free and family friendly. - this could also be advertised for campers. But discounts offered for staying at the campsite.

Disliked Nothing, I loved my stay

Local attractions

Raron's locale is under an hour from the mountain resorts of the Upper Valais, from Aletschgebiet to Zermatt under the Matterhorn peak. You can travel over the border to Italy or to other Swiss cantons via mountain passes and spectacular views: particularly recommended by the site team are the Simplon Pass, connecting Brig in Valais with Domodossola in Italy's Piedmont, and the Furka Pass, linking Andermatt in Uri with Gletsch in Valais. Another tiptop option is a trip to the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in the Alps and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jungfrau-Aletsch. To visit a glacier from the inside, have a day at the Ice Pavillion of Saas-Fee, next to the world's highest revolving restaurant. A 70-metre long tunnel leads into the ice of the glacier, which can be reached via a subterranean cable car.
