Clean and quiet family site on the Costa Brava

'Exceptionally clean and quiet' is how the crew at Càmping Playa Brava sums up its splendid Spanish site, and that's before even getting to its lush locale – and its beach. It's all on the Costa Brava, right in the protected marine area of the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park and with direct access to the sandy beach of Platja de Pals, a dune-surrounded stretch of three and a half kilometres. The utterly fab medieval town of Pals, set on a hilltop near the Costa Brava coast in the Bay of Emporda, is within easy driving distance. Playa Brava is a green and pleasant site, with a level pitching field mostly shaded by mature trees. It has an outdoor pool with a spacious lawn area for lounging and sunbathing, overlooked by the terrace of the site restaurant and bar, and there's also a roomy playground – send the kids off to expend energy here while you play tennis or pétanque (or beach volleyball, or miniature golf) and then plunge into the water…? Amenities include five modern and well-maintained toilet and shower blocks with accessible facilities, a launderette with washing machines and dryers, a drying room and a washing-up area. The site also has a bar and restaurant for meals indoors or out, and a well-stocked supermarket. Entertainment runs regularly throughout July and August.

Liked: Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Leider waren wir gezwungen unsere Reise von gebuchten 15 Nächten aufgrund einer Autopanne in Frankreich auf 5 Nächte zu verkürzen, was wir sehr bedauern, da uns Allen der Platz sehr gut gefallen hat. Die Sanitäranlagen, die Anlage, der Strand- alles ist sehr sauber. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und das Angebot für die Kids war wirklich gut.

Liked: Fantastic location right on beach. Toilets was immaculate, always being cleaned 10 out of 10 to cleaning staff. Nice pitch and great having supermarket and bakery on site. Kids loved it feels safe and quite a bit to do for kids

Disliked: Restaurant /barstaff seem very stressed out ,if you sit down at a table they are on you straight away asking what your doing sitting down which is strange??I want to order food !! The man panicked as i sat at a table of 6 ,This is for a table of 6 he growled ,yes the other 5 people are behind me look there coming lol We got up and left after that .

Liked: Very clean toilets/ shower wash up block, site well stocked , lovely bakery.

Disliked: Pitches small , was eaten by bugs. Not many sun beds around pool area. Too far from Town . Sea had big drop went deep quickly. Unable to fish little stream on site.

Càmping Playa Brava is well set to use as a base for getting around the Costa Brava and Girona, whether you yearn for lazy afternoons on the beach or busy days around the likes of Barcelona and Pals. Whichever you pick, you really must have a hike (or stroll) along the coastal path, dipping down into its little coves or up to its cliffs – both pretty spectacular – followed by an enthusiastic sample of the local cuisine, based around the food of both the sea and the mountains. Diving is available among the clear waters, fish and marine mammals of the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, along with nature spotting and birdwatching: around 189 bird species have been seen to flock around its waters. If you're more into urban and/or historic days, Playa Brava is handily set for places like Empuries, with its Roman ruins; the Dali Museum in Figueres; first-rate Pals; the ceramics of La Bisbal, and – but of course – Barcelona, the Catalonian capital stuffed with sights such as Barcelona Cathedral (magnif), the medieval Old Town and Las Ramblas, the Liceu Opera House and a whole heap more.
