- Single bell tent at a spacious rural Castile and Leon site
- Belorado 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to the Rioja Alta area
- Dog-friendly glamping with wonderful views and private bathroom
Craving a countryside escape with a bit of comfort in Castile and Leon? If it’s peace and quiet you’re after, make a beeline for the bell tent at El Astial de Ezquerra.
There’s just the one tent at this site in the Sierra de la Demanda mountains, so you’ll have heaps of space in which to slow down, put your feet up, pour a drink and admire the fabulous surroundings. There are some easy walks to viewpoints from the site if you’d like to stretch your legs a bit – and the area also has plenty of other trails, plus villages and interesting attractions to fill your days out.
As you’ll see from the pictures, this is very much a rural location, but it’s also one that comes with a good dose of comfort. There’s plenty of space to relax and move around inside the bell tent and it’s kitted out with a double bed, rugs and an electric heater to keep things cosy. You’ll also have a private outdoor bathroom and a picnic table where you can serve up your alfresco meals and drinks.
And where will you pick up your drink and meal supplies? Well, despite the fabulously green views, it’s actually not far to the nearest town – Belorado is about 10 minutes’ drive away and home to shops, cafés and restaurants.

Local attractions
You’ll probably start your stay with a stroll along one of the walks in the area around the site, but it’s well worth venturing a bit further into the Sierra de la Demanda to explore the forests and mountain scenery a bit more. Pradoluengo (10 minutes’ drive) is a good hub for marked trails and textile workshops, or for a change of scenery you could follow the art trail in Belorado (10 minutes).
There’s a museum in Belorado as well – and for more local history you can stop by to see the Visigothic church in San Vicente del Valle (10 minutes) or the archaeological site in Atapuerca (half an hour). Meanwhile, Cueva De Fuente Molinos (10 minutes) has both splendid natural rock formations and interesting heritage tours.
Looking a little further afield, you could venture into the Rioja Alta region to tour the vineyards and traditional settlements – both Ezcaray (half an hour) and Haro (40 minutes) are good places to start. There’s also the option of a day in Burgos (50 minutes), visiting the cathedral and Museum of Human Evolution and generally strolling around the historic centre.
