A mountain setting, a river valley and a peaceful place a couple of hours from Madrid: settle down for some traditional Spanish camping among well-maintained facilities at Ávila's .
Set in the old and colourful town of Candeleda on the southern side of the Gredos Mountains in the Tiétar river valley, this quiet campsite is in an area popular with tourists – and natives – coming from the Madrid area, in a region dotted by high-up and traditional Castile and León villages. Hiking, mountaineering and all manner of outdoor activities can be arranged among the cliffs and crags of the surrounding mountains.
In between all this activity, have restful days on site at the Candeleda pools – one for adults and one for kids – or at the grassy sunbathing areas for snoozing sedately under one's sunnies. The bar and restaurant is open daily and serves a good selection of local dishes indoors or on its terrace.
If you're still feeling active, race along to the sports area for a spot of tennis, football or basketball, or to the padel/tennis court: ask in reception for the sports equipment you need.
The well-maintained facilities are all in the main building, with free hot showers, toilets, a washing-up area and a launderette with washing machines and tumble dryers. Other amenities include a chemical disposal point and free wifi.

Local attractions
Candeleda village is a popular weekend destination for tourists coming from the Madrid area. If you like to venture into real Spain, drive to the small villages dotting the area. The Candeleda village festival and processions in honour of the town's patron saint, the Virgin of Chilla, are held annually on the second and third Sunday of September.
The campsite is located on the southern side of the Gredos Mountains, a stunning natural landscape with lagoons, gorges, cirques, crags and cliffs where a range of activities can be organised, such as hiking, cycling, mountaineering, climbing, horse riding, canoeing, paragliding and golf.
