- Stylish glampsite edging Playa de los Lances on the Costa de la Luz
- A ten-minute drive to Tarifa; an hour to Gibraltar and Cádiz
- Pre-erected tipis; swimming pool, games room and store on site
Whether you’re intent on hitting the kitesurfing beaches of Tarifa or are after a luxury base for Andalusian adventuring, your Costa de la Luz glamping holiday begins the nano-second you arrive at Kampaoh Tarifa, 10 minutes’ drive from central Tarifa.
Super-comfy tipis – with direct access to the famed Playa de los Lances with views across the Strait of Gibraltar to North Africa – are set up ready and waiting, so all you need to do is check in and… chill out.
Tucked under the tree canopy to keep everyone cool in the summer, the stylish, bijou tipis sleep up to six people. They are all powered by electricity, have carpeted floors for extra comfort, and come with chairs and table, kitchenware, mirrors, hanging space, and storage for your kit. Bedding, bath towels and fridges to keep food and drinks fresh are part of the set-up too.
On-site facilities include a swimming pool, a kids’ playground and a football field. At the end of a happy day on the beach or exploring the hinterlands of Cádiz (around an hour’s drive), meet up with fellow glampers in the social room, play a couple of games of pool or retreat to the private seating area outside your tipi for some meditative R&R over supper (there’s a small store on site for essentials).
In high season, you can join in themed events after dark, but generally life on this swish beachfront site is peaceful and calm – so if wild parties are your thing, then this is not the place for you.

Local attractions
Right on the tip of southern Europe, Tarifa sits in El Estrecho Natural Park, known for its birdwatching habitats (it’s on the migration route between Europe and Africa) and archaeological sites like the former Roman city of Baelo Claudia (20 minutes’ drive), where you can still see temple columns, gently crumbling statues and the remains of the forum.
Thanks to the strong winds that blow in these parts, Tarifa is one of the world’s meccas of wind-powered water sports. If that’s not for you, join a whale-spotting cruise from Tarifa’s port (10 minutes) or leave Europe altogether by taking a day trip to Tangier (35 minutes by ferry) to tour the Grand Mosque and ancient Medina.
Gibraltar (an hour) also rewards a day trip to spy Barbary apes in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, go underground to see the spectacular limestone formations in St Michael’s Cave or get lost in the labyrinthine 18th-century Great Siege Tunnels. Test your head for heights with a ride to the top of the Rock on the Gibraltar Cable Car, or take a stroll (if you dare) on the glass-floored Skywalk, 1,115 feet above the Mediterranean.
