Sporty families, this one’s for you. There’s everything you need at Camping Albox for active holidays, from the outdoor pool to four tennis courts and three paddle tennis courts. You can ramp up the fitness regime (must you?) in the (very well-equipped) gym and then chill out with a good book in the wooden sauna. Daily life may revolve around the tennis courts and pool here, but there’s plenty to do after dark as well. Barbecue back at your cosy base, get together with fellow guests over a jar in the bar, or order a takeaway. In summer, there’s sometimes entertainment in the evening too. This secluded spot is surrounded by craggy mountains, olive groves and orchards, and yet it’s only a five-minute drive from Albox, a traditional Spanish white town with markets on Tuesday and Saturday where you can pick up fresh local goodies like cheese and chorizo. Back at the camp, family-friendly facilities include a play area for younger kids, a launderette service and washing-up area, with showers and loos in the amenities block, while teens can keep up with their mates on wifi (an extra charge).

Spacious, clean pitches & great facilities. Staff (Pedro & Javier) friendly, peaceful vibe. Good for kids. Access road can be tricky for big vans, limited shade, pool seasonal. Some noise from workers/music.

Liked The staff on reception was really nice and helpful.
Loved the large pitches, everything we needed for a one night stop over.
The pool was nice and clean. We had a drink at the bar in the onsite restaurant.
Showers and toilets very clean.

Javier es un hombre muy amable y ayudante.
Nos hemos hecho un buen tiempo en el camping.

Disliked La piscina tiene una buena entrada para discapacitados.

Liked Piscina, restaurante y la tranquilidad. Amabilidad y disposición del anfitrión, ubicación. El lugar de poner la tienda de campaña cerca luces, cerca las baños y con sombra. Todo muy limpio y pasamos un buen momento en ese camping. 😄👍

Disliked No se puede poner nada en la tierra para montar la tienda de campaña, pero hemos encontrado una solución entonces todo bien. 😄👍

Liked Lovely site. Excellent manager Javier who has a great sense of humour. Use of lovely pool. Toilets and showers beautifully clean. Use of a microwave.

Liked What a gem massive pitches with water and ehu stunning views spotless toilets and showers the owner couldnt do enough smashing bar and restaurant lovely food and service, entrance road is steep no probs for a 8m motorhome went up in 2nd

Liked The large pitch was excellent. The welcome was good and the guy very helpful.
The wifi was good and we could get television on our pitch. Very friendly site. There were almost no other touring campers when we arrived. Great for overnight stayover. We did not use the restaurant or bar.
The showers and toilets are basic but very clean.

Disliked It was about 32 degrees and the pool was not open which was a shame. We only stayed one night so can't comment on the local area. The only problem was the entry to the site. There is a very steep road from the main road to the site. We had a 7.20m motorhome with a trailer and motor scooter. The road was very very steep and not for the fient hearted. We would not attempt to drive up it again with the same rig.

Local attractions

Should you have a break in your hectic tennis schedule, jump in the car to explore the white villages in the foothills around Almería. Huércal-Overa (30 minutes’ drive) has a restored hilltop castle to check out, and Mojácar (50 minutes) has a cute, flower-filled old town to nose around. Nijar (an hour and 15 minutes) is worth the hilly drive for its bizarre cliff formations, coves and sculpted sand dunes, and you can summon up your inner cowboy around Tabernas (an hour), where canyons and semi-desert landscapes have stood in for the Wild West many times on film. Treat the kids to Mediterranean swims in coastal towns like Garrucha (45 minutes) and Puerto del Rey (40 minutes), and then mooch around whitewashed backstreets and do a bit of tapas-bar hopping. Almería (an hour and 15 minutes) also has gorgeous family beaches overlooked by a spectacular Moorish fort.
