Nature, fresh air and comfortable accommodation all rolled into one? Head out into the Utrecht countryside for a glamping break at Røstig, on the banks of the Linge river in the village of Kedichem.
Come as a couple, bring a small group or treat yourself to a solo stay – either way, you’ll be made to feel most welcome at this peaceful retreat, where the emphasis is on proper relaxation. And what that means around here is days spent exploring the area in a canoe or on a fat bike, then coming back to soothe your muscles (and your mind) in the sauna or hot tub, or possibly with a massage.
Adding to the wellness offering here are various workshops including sessions on yoga, meditation, creativity and other relaxation options. Guests can choose to participate in two free workshops per day.
The chilled-out atmosphere is boosted further by the fact that you’ll only have to make minimal effort to get your accommodation sorted – each cosy glamping unit has a comfy bed (or beds), fresh bed linen, a fridge, a kettle and rugs to keep things comfortable underfoot. Outside, there’s outdoor seating and a stove or fire bowl – cooking outdoors is all part of the adventure, so you’ll be provided with utensils, plates and cutlery to help you along with that.
You don't have to light a fire every time you want to eat, however – there’s also a lovely waterside restaurant on site where you can sit out with a meal and drinks when the weather is nice.

Local attractions
There are several ways to see some of your surroundings – perhaps taking a walk through some of the nearby green spaces, taking a canoe out on the river or bringing/renting a bike to pedal along local paths. Some spots worth seeking out nearby include the interactive museum at the GeoFort ‘fortress island’ (15 minutes' drive/half an hour by bike) and the solid medieval Loevestein Castle (half an hour’s drive/45 minutes by bike).
It’s also really worth making a visit to Leerdam (10 minutes’ drive/20 minutes by bike) – the city is well known for its glass makers and National Glass Museum, and there are some lovely boat tours taking in its old walls and gates known as ‘mouse towers’.
Gorinchem (15 minutes' drive/25 minutes by bike) is another lovely place to visit – it’s previously been designated ‘the most beautiful fortified town in the Netherlands’, and there's a lot to enjoy on a walking tour taking in its waterways, windmill and historic houses.
